An MBA in Recession time: Does it make sense?

Hello,

Recession will last only for the coming 3 years or maximum 4 years. Also the impact of recession on India will not be so huge as compared to USA or other markets. In this time one should be smart and work on polishing the skills that one possesses. Of coure doing MBA would gaurantee every person bigger salary pachages with quality work. The most important thing to be remembered is not the Institute's brand name but the quality of education imparted in those institutes. The brand name of any college will only help you to get a job in the company but the real battle is set after that.

There have been cases where students from the most top MBA institutes in India have been asked to leave the companies only because they didnt have the basic knowledge about a lot of stuff. Nor were these kids ready to work in companies as the had huge attitude problems (thanks to the top college that they were educated from).

MBA in recession is a good option but the college doesnt matter so much if you are a gem ready to sparkle anywhere.

Hi friends,
It does not make any sense of not doing MBA(only if u r determined) during a recession...These r the ppl who r short sighted & look MBA only as a gateway to find a gud job.
& therefore because of ppl like this, i believe it wld be easy for the aspirants to get admissions in premium institutes due to lack of competition.
And for those who wish to develop their own business after completing his/her MBA, never look at recession because it has to subside after few months or a couple of yrs.
Infact the period will be a gud learning lessons for those who has opted to study management as the experiences of that period will be fresh & will inculcate the best of knowledge during the worst of time.

it is definetly a good option because something is better than nothing a normal grad will not get anything so mba wud help him better

It is possible that when you will get degree in your hand crisis may be over and some lucrative offer may waiting for you

Recession is not going to last forever and its only a matter of time before things change for the better...So actually i think its the best time to get into a MBA now as by the time u'll pass out the market conditions would've changed for the better and of course the demand will be higher.....As for the B school brand name. The name of the college definitely matters: In getting u the first preference, having better companies visit ur campus with higher package et all.....But that's where it ends. If u havent got the knowledge u soon eat away at ur own advantage.

ya it does make a lot of sense as this is the time when the companies will drill you without even paying you for your worth.

yes.. i think this is a great time to take up an mba... but the time we get our degree the recession would have lifted and many great opportunities will be available..

Hello all,

clearly MBA is overhyped already, It has gained momentum over the past decade i believe owing to an overflow of technical and engineering expertise that India has been delivering over the years.
anyhow, its sure that if you don't have a graduate degree from a top school then you have to work that much harder to succeed in your professional life .
An MBA tends to be regional, except for top programs. Unless you REALLY want to work abroad , which is another thing, an MBA outside your country makes sense only if it has an international reputation. The reputation of the school in general AND the business school.
In the current scenario id rather say- y work fir an Ibank when i can probably own one !

hello freinds,

If u have a good job and an excellent graduate degree then i don't think you require much higher certification. The thing is that you must be get updated with time. And your work experience will keep on adding the value to you.

If you don't have a good opportunity in your hand in that case it is the best time to go for MBA.

My view is that Boom and Recession is a part of repeatable economy cycle. Recession might be a good time to retool oneself to be able to stand the best chance when good times return...

What do i add .. which has not already been posted here. I decided to my MBA during the recession time.. as i am hoping that by the time i graduate from B-school situation would have improved..I just got my admission for my full time MBA...

no no................................................................................................................

Doing an MBA in these kind of times itself would pose a question on Why anyone wants do MBA?

MBA degree is like an investment which ripe in long term. But now in these kind opf markets where people are hardly ready to leave a penny. But off cuser there is bright side to it also.

By the time anyone entering MBAS now and passing out after 2 years the shock of Subprime Crisis and Recession might have been subdued. That stands a good chance to make entry in market.

WIsh to see more good on this
