An Evening with JBIMS

An Evening with JBIMS

An Evening with JBIMS was an event where the toppers of CMAT 2012 interacted with the CMAT aspirants of 2013. It was a platform for the aspiring candidates to know in depth about the intricacies of the examination and about Life as a B-School student at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. The event saw participation in huge numbers from students from various colleges across the country. It was held at the Convocation Hall of the Mumbai University campus at Churchgate on 27th January 2013. Registrations for the event had begun well in advance and interested candidates had to fill up an online form to register.

The evening was filled with some tips and tricks from the very people who had been there, done that a year back. The CMAT toppers of last year shared their strategies of how they managed to crack CMAT. The speakers, who spoke at the event included:

Mr. Sujitkumar Birendranath (CMAT Merit Rank 2)

Mr. Ashwini Singh (CMAT Merit Rank 6)

Mr. Tilak Shetty (All India Merit List Rank 8)

Ms. Peethi Parthasarthy (CET Merit Rank 6)

Ashwini Singh stressing on the importance of the GK section in the exam said “Make it a habit to read the newspaper editorials every day. It will not only help in improving your Reading Comprehension skills but also your General Knowledge”. He spoke at length about how the GK section would be the “make or break” in such an exam especially if one is looking at getting into a top B-school like JBIMS.

“Critical Reasoning questions are something unique to this exam compared to other B-school entrance exams. Students scoring higher will be the ones who excel in these types of questions”, Sujitkumar Birendranath who secured All India Rank 2 in last year’s CMAT examination opined.

Preethi Parthasarthy who was one of the CET toppers in 2012 said, “Be well prepared to handle any kinds of surprises in the paper. The more time you spend analysing your strengths and weaknesses, the better prepared you will be for an unexpected paper”.

Tilak Shetty stressed on the importance of the GD-PI process and asked the aspirants not to be too disheartened with a seemingly low score in the written exam. “While the written exam holds the maximum weightage in the admission process, the role of GDPI should not be underestimated. If you are skirting the cut-off boundaries due to low CMAT scores, GDPI could be the ace up your sleeves. Following the basic GD etiquettes, 4-5 strong points in the GD and confident answers in the PI should easily land you a seat at JBIMS.”, he said.

We also had Prashanta Khaitan, a second year student of JBIMS sharing his experiences about the entrance examinations and about life in JBIMS. Prashanta had some valuable insights on how to excel as an MBA student in a top B-school. His insights gave the aspirants an idea on how life will shape up once they enter JBIMS. The various test taking approaches, subtle nuances of questions asked in CMAT, time management tips, GD/PI tips, valuable insights into preparation in this last lap before CMAT were discussed. The JBIMS students also answered various questions and queries of aspirants during the Q&A session. All in all, it was a ‘one of a kind’ experience for the CMAT aspirants who got to interact with the incumbent toppers on a personal level.
