Amaethon 2015, the annual food and agribusiness summit of IIM Ahmedabad is being held at the institute’s campus from 16th to 18th January 2015.
The three day event brings together students, professors, industry veterans and policy makers to discuss and deliberate upon contemporary issues in the food and agribusiness sector. Amaethon attracts participants from various management schools from all over India, and this year the event has gone international eliciting participation from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Philippines and Sri Lanka.
Amaethon 2015 is organized by the students of IIMA, under the guidance and advisory of Prof. Vasant Gandhi, Chairperson, Centre for Management in Agriculture, IIMA. The theme for this year is "Emerging Food and Agribusiness Opportunities in Developing Economies", which will be explored through competitions for students, panel discussions, workshops and sport activities.
Accordingly, Amaethon 2015 will witness a panel discussion that would cover a wide gamut of issues in the agribusiness and food sector, particularly in the context of developing economies. Information and communication technologies are being increasingly looked at to offer solutions in the primary sector. The other panel discussion will deliberate on the innovative uses of ICT that have been tried and the way forward to promote effective use of the technologies in agribusiness.
Speakers for the panel discussions include Mr. Atul Chaturvedi, CEO, Adani Wilmar, Mr. S. Baskar Reddy, Executive Director, Syngenta Foundation India, Mr. G. Chandrashekhar, The Hindu Business Line, Mr. Neil Patel, CEO, Awaaz De, Mr. S.K. Gupta, CEO, JK Agri Genetics Ltd., and Mr. N. Seetharama, Executive Director, ABLE India, to name a few.
Workshops are being organized in data analytics, rural marketing and cold chain and warehousing. The workshop on data analytics is being conducted by Prof. Arindam Banerjee, Marketing, IIMA. While data analytics is being used in several sectors, its application in agribusiness and developing country scenario needs to be customized and that would be the underlying theme in Prof. Banerjee’s workshop. The workshop on rural marketing will be conducted by Mr. Pradeep Kashyap, Founder and CEO, MART, a rural marketing veteran and consultant.
Amaethon 2015 has ample competitions for students that test their skills in developing business plans, rural marketing strategies and entrepreneurial ideas. There are various on-the-spot events for participants besides a host of cultural programmes to lighten the evenings. The organizers have come up with an innovative approach to highlight the problem of food wastage by organizing a "Run for Amaethon".
