Alstom to supply HVDC transformers for Powergrid

New Delhi: Alstom T&D India and Alstom Grid UK Ltd recently won a €22.75 million (Rs1820 million) contract from Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) to supply and refurbish 234 MVA and 400 kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter transformers.

The scope of contract involves designing, engineering, manufacturing, refurbishing, erection and commissioning of HVDC converter transformers which will be manufactured at company’s Vadodara, India and Stafford, the UK units.

Alstom will reinstate the old transformers and enhance life of 1000 MW HVDC station at Bhadrawati in Maharashtra with its HVDC converter transformers.

Replacing these transformers not only strengthens the transmission link with the southern region but also ensures reliable power supply between western and southern grid.
