All z well that ends well

A mixed “Summer Internship Experience”[/b]

If there is no way then any way can be chosen and if there are many ways, then the best way is to be chosen. Human intelligence is actually to select the best and the shortest way. The best way brings hope and sound beliefs. A great sense of excitement and an important event in the life of every B school graduate, ‘Summer Internship’. After attending numerous group discussions and interviews, I was finally picked by a leading consumer durables company of India. Although, I was one of the last candidates to be selected from my batch I thanked the almighty for answering my prayers at the end and blessing me with a great opportunity where I thought could truly portray the saying ’let your light shine’ without knowing the fact that all these days would just thrash my dreams but it is said all’s well that ends well.[/b]

As a firm believer of punctuality, I reported well ahead of time at my office in Bangalore on 2nd April , and surprisingly looked at the interns already present there and that too all boys. I was asked to visit the manufacturing plant of the company; I was not so used to the constant hustle and bustle at the workplace and tempers flaring around me in an extremely stressed environment, and that too on the first day of my internship. I tried to motivate myself to have a friendly talk with other interns and even the company guide was trying to make me comfortable. Having visited the manufacturing plant, we were asked to attend the lunch with the senior executive officer. The food was good and the people were friendly. After we finished the lunch, we were asked to return to the main office by bus. I’m not a usual bus traveller and could not bear long bus journeys but anyhow managed to get well through it. We reported by the evening to the office and there met the vice president of the office. He looked to be a nice yet strict person, he greeted us and offered some snacks after a small discussion about our first experience with the manufacturing plant he asked us to submit a short report of the product line category.

The very next day I came to know that the house in which I was the paying guest was already been booked by somebody else a week ago so in mere confusion I had to get out of the house. In search of a good and reasonable PG I and my friend went to almost every area around my company in Bangalore, in just two days we had visited around 25 houses and finally got one. During this entire situation I failed to submit my report to the VP of the company. But yet I was spared and given a week to prepare a report on the same with some more research on the same. I tied my belt and got prepared to work harder and show my best performance to my company head. I worked day and night and after 25 days could prepare a report but to my surprise during downloading of a software my laptop was infected by virus and the window was corrupted. Again I was unable to submit my report in the meeting.

The service company took about a week to fix my laptop, finally I was able to submit my first report after 39 days of work in the company, but the VP was quite happy with my efforts and stretched the project from a mere HR work to s the marketing research product line development. I put in a lot of efforts to come up to his expectations to develop a literature of the company for all the salespeople as well as buyer manual. After completion of my project the all the interns of the company were greeted and taken to a restaurant and there I was awarded with the best intern award by the company

I was extremely happy as my efforts reaped the fruits and I threw a party to my friends from the first stipend I got and returned happily to my college to continue my 4th term.

This intern's account is a personal and reflective narrative that focuses on overcoming challenges during a summer internship. The writing aims to be relatable by highlighting common intern anxieties and unexpected hurdles, ultimately concluding with a triumphant success story.

Writing Style and Techniques

  • Personal and Conversational Tone: The use of "I" throughout makes the narrative very personal and allows the reader to connect with the intern's emotions and experiences. Phrases like "I thanked the almighty" and "I'm not a usual bus traveller" add to this relatable voice.
  • Narrative Arc: The story follows a clear progression, starting with initial excitement, moving through unexpected challenges (housing, report delays, laptop issues), and concluding with a positive resolution and achievement ("best intern award"). This arc makes the experience engaging and provides a sense of triumph.
  • Emphasis on Resilience and Effort: The core message revolves around perseverance. Phrases like "tried to motivate myself," "tied my belt and got prepared to work harder," and "worked day and night" highlight the intern's dedication despite setbacks.
  • Emotional Highs and Lows: The text effectively captures a range of emotions, from initial "great sense of excitement" and "thanked the almighty" to confusion, stress, and ultimately "extremely happy." This emotional rollercoaster makes the narrative more dynamic.
  • Figurative Language and Idioms: The use of phrases like "let your light shine," "thrash my dreams," "tempers flaring," and "efforts reaped the fruits" adds color and makes the writing more expressive, though some feel slightly clichéd.
  • Direct Address (Implied): While not explicitly addressing the reader, the conversational tone makes it feel like the intern is sharing their story directly.

Overall Impression

The writing effectively conveys the mixed emotions and challenges inherent in a summer internship. It's a relatable tale of an intern who, despite being "one of the last candidates to be selected" and facing a series of personal and technical difficulties, ultimately shines. The focus on perseverance, the supportive company culture, and the final recognition creates a heartwarming and inspiring conclusion. While there are a few informal phrasings and some repetition, these contribute to its authentic, diary-like feel. It's a well-structured personal reflection that successfully chronicles a journey from apprehension to significant achievement.
