Air-India Limited invites applications from Engineering / Science Graduates for enlisting them
for the position of Cadet Pilot from Indian Nationals (wherever domiciled) fulfilling the
following requirements:-
1.NUMBER OF POSITIONS : 150
SC- 22 , ST-11, OBC-40, GEN-77
2.ELIGIBILITY:
a) ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
ENGINEERING GRADUATES
Engineering Graduates in disciplines of Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical
Engineering, Computer Science/Computer Engineering, who have obtained First Class. Those who
have appeared before July 01, 2006 for their final year examination and are awaiting results
will be eligible to apply, provided they have obtained First Class in the aggregate of the
previous 3 years.
OR
SCIENCE GRADUATES
Science Graduates (3 years graduation course only), majoring in either Mathematics and Physics
or Aviation with minimum 75% marks in the third year final examination. Those who have appeared
before July 01, 2006 for their final year examination and are awaiting results will be eligible
to apply, provided they have obtained minimum 75% in the aggregate of the previous 2 years.
However, all the candidates who have appeared for their final examination will have to produce
the result/ mark-sheet of their passing the final examination before their enlistment for Cadet
Pilot.
b) TECHNICAL:
Practical knowledge of computers is essential.
c) INDIAN PASSPORT:
The candidates should be in possession of an Indian Passport, at the time of Personal
Interview. Those who have made an application for obtaining an Indian passport must provide
proof of application at the time of Personal Interview. However, the candidature of
individuals, not possessing an Indian passport at the time of enlistment for Cadet Pilot, will
be cancelled.
4.SELECTION PROCEDURE:
WRITTEN TEST:
All eligible candidates will be required to undergo an objective type of written test,
consisting of a composite paper with questions related to:
(a) Mathematics
(b) Physics
(c) Geography
(d) Test of logical and numerical reasoning
(e) Working knowledge of English
(f) General Knowledge with reference to aviation.
The written test will be conducted at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata.
PERSONAL INTERVIEW:
Candidates found successful in the written test will have to appear for a Personal Interview at
their respective centers.
PILOT APTITUDE TEST:
Candidates found successful in the Personal Interview will be required to appear for a Pilot
Aptitude Test. Only those candidates who are found successful in this Test will be sent for
Medical Examination.
MEDICAL:
The selected candidates will have to undergo a medical examination by the Company Medical
Officer to meet Company medical standards and also the Class -1 medical by CME - IAM of IAF.
Note:
SC/ST candidates called for written test, Personal Interview, Pilot Aptitude Test and Medical
exam will be paid Travelling Allowance for the shortest route as admissible under the Rules.
The candidates, in their own interest, may independently ensure in advance, at their own cost,
that they meet the medical standards required for being employed as a Pilot.
5.TRAINING:
1. The selected candidates will be sent to identified Training Institutes for training in
ground subjects and flying training. The Cadet Pilots will have to arrange their own finance/
avail study loan for their flying training. The cost of obtaining a CPL would be approximately
20 lacs. Air India would assist them in obtaining a loan through designated banks, however Air
India will not stand guarantee for the same.
2. Whilst being trained, these candidates will be designated as Cadet Pilots and will be
required to sign a contract to serve the Company for a minimum period of 7 years.
3. On successful completion of training, if the candidate has done his/her CPL training out of
India, he will be required to convert the CPL license to the Indian CPL license.
4. Air India reserves the right to terminate the Cadet Pilot's training at any stage for poor
performance, misconduct or for disciplinary reasons.
6.APPOINTMENT IN AIR-INDIA
1. On obtaining an Indian CPL, the Cadet Pilot will be required to join Air-India as Trainee
Pilot.
2. On successful completion of this training and on obtaining endorsement on stipulated
aircraft in the fleet of Air India, they will be appointed as probationary Co- pilots.
7.COST OF TRAINING
1. The cost of training approx. Rs.20 lacs will have to be borne by the selected candidates.
The selected candidates can avail bank loan to the extent of Rs.15 lakhs as per the existing
Education Loan Schemes of various banks. Some banks may consider increasing the amount of loan.
As a collateral security, the banks may need a co-obligation of parents/guardian/3rd party and
/ or other documents as required by the individual banks as per their schemes. The banks
would also require commitment from the candidates to repay the loan after they are employed
with Air India. While Air India would assist the candidates in obtaining bank loan, Air India
would not stand guarantee for the loan taken by the candidates.
2. The loan installment will be directly deducted from the candidate's emoluments in Air India
after they have been placed as a Co-pilot on probation, in monthly equated installments that
has been worked out between the Bank, the candidate and the Company.
8.GENERAL:
a) Reservation and Relaxation for SC/ST/OBC candidates will be made as per Govt. of India
rules.
b) Candidates belonging to OBC category must submit a photocopy of current financial year
certificate in format as prescribed by Govt. of India and issued by the competent authority.
The certificate, inter alia, must specifically state that the candidate does not belong to
socially advanced sections excluded from the benefits of reservations for OBC in Civil posts
and services, under the Govt. of India. His/Her caste should be reflected in the Central List
of OBCs. The certificate should also contain the 'Creamy Layer' Clause where applicable.
c) Only attested copy of caste certificate( applicable for SC/ST/OBC candidates) should be
submitted by candidates at the time of personal interview along with copy of Marks
d) Candidates must ensure that they fulfill all eligibility criteria and that particulars
furnished by them in the application are correct in all respect. In case it is detected at any
stage that a candidate does not fulfill any of the eligibility criteria and/or that he/she has
furnished any incorrect information or has suppressed any material fact(s), his/her candidature
will stand cancelled. If any of these shortcomings is/are detected even after the appointment,
his/her services are liable to be terminated.
e) Application once made will not be allowed to be withdrawn and the fee once paid will not be
refunded on any account.
f) Air-India will not be responsible for any postal delay/loss at any stage of
transmission/communication.
g) No accommodation will be provided by the Company.
h) Selected candidates on enlistment may be posted at any of the flying training schools, as
decided by Air India.
i) Any canvassing by or on behalf of the candidates or other outside influence with regard to
their selection/recruitment shall be considered as a DISQUALIFICATION.
j) Court jurisdiction will be Mumbai in case of any disputes.
9.HOW TO APPLY:
Candidates meeting the above requirements will have to apply on-line at the Air India web site

The candidates are required to deposit Rs.1000/- (for General and OBC candidates only) with any
of the core banking branch of State Bank of India to the credit of Air India Account
No.30060652259 and obtain a Host Trace Number which will be provided by the core branch of the
bank. The candidate is required to mention in the appropriate column in the application form,
the SBI branch, date, city and the Host Trace Number. The candidate should also submit a
photocopy of the pay in slip indicating name of the SBI branch, date, city and Host Trace
Number at the time of appearing for the written test alongwith the call letter.
The fee amount of Rs.1000/- once deposited into Air India's account will not be refunded in any
case, even if the candidate is unable to apply on-line due to his own problems or due to being
ineligible at the time of applying, and in case the on-line application is not accepted.
Therefore, before depositing the fee amount the candidate should amply ensure that they meet
with all the eligibility criteria. In no case, any refund of fees will be entertained.
When appearing for the written test, candidates will have to carry the following :
i) A recent photograph affixed on the Call Letter.
ii) Identification in the form of Driving Licence/ Passport/ Election Card or any photo ID card
issued by Government Authorities.
iii) A photocopy of the pay-in-slip/ document as approved of having paid the requisite fees in
case of General/ OBC candidates.
