While a government has a responsibility to protect its population, it also has a responsibility to defend their freedom of choice. The law steps in to prevent citizens causing harm to others, whether deliberately or accidentally. However, it should not stop them taking risks themselves - for example, dangerous sports such as rock-climbing, parachuting or motor-racing are legal. It is also legal to indulge in other health-threatening activities such as eating lots of fatty foods, taking no exercise, and drinking too much alcohol. Banning smoking would be an unmerited intrusion into personal freedom.

I think they should ban alcohol before they ban tobacco. Tobacco doesnt impair your judgement while driving, etc. They've already restricted tobacco enough, and taxed it to high hell. When are they gonna realize that alcohol is just as bad, if not worse. And by the way, I myself am a non-smoker and non-drinker.

ya u r absolutly correct b4 banin tobacco they should 1st ban alcohol....bt it is nt a decision that could taken forthnight. a keen examination, research is required becoz its nt al abt who drink alcohol its also abt who make alcohol in factories (like labourers),who work as a retailer etc. a big chain is involved. if govt ban, these people earnings would be lost .... govt needs to 1st create employment 4 these people nd then strt to eradicate this curse 4m our society...

A principle in torts is "your right ends where my nose begins". So, undeniably smokers have a freedom to choose to smoke but that does not give them the right to put the life of others in jeopardy. They have their rights as long as those rights do not interfere with the rights of others. I fully condone banning smoking, at least in public places.

There is no question that health psychology needs to be more involved with matters concerning health inequalities and the social injustices associated with media racism, and racism in general. It is recognized that our discipline has the potential to develop and carry out research that can make valuable contributions to address such issues. Reflecting and discussing these matters were useful in this respect, however, the recommendations raised here need to be put into practice for real progress to be made. Engaging with society itself is also crucial.

Thank you for Not Smoking. Cigarette smoke is the residue of your pleasure. It contaminates the air, pollutes my hair and clothes, not to mention my lungs. This takes place without my consent. I have a pleasure, also. I like a beer now and then. The residue of my pleasure is urine. Would you be annoyed if I stood on a chair and pissed on your head and your clothes without your consent? ~Sign from Ken's Magic Shop
