A. R Rehman oscar award

I can only say the famour Harsha Bhogle's words " It doesn't matter how they come as long as they come". (Harsha tells it when the runs are scored for any awkward shots).

I personally believe that it is not one of the best songs that A.R.Rehman has scored. He had given many music scores for many hit numbers.... he was never recognised with such honour .... but im happy that he got it .... Im just happy but not proud ..... i guess one can understand ......

The only thing that makes me sad is that his other works have not been recognised earlier. But atleast he has come into limelight. Hats off to him

Even if rehman's past work did not get the attention reqd...I believe that going ahead rehman has a lot of good music coming our way and that will be recognized world over ...... so nothing to worry .......Rehman rocks

Being an ardent fan of AR Rehman fed on songs he composed in Malayalam, Tamil & Hindi, Jai Ho isn't something I can listen to non-stop as is the case with most Rehman songs. However something is better than nothing and Jai Ho was probably better than the other contenders in the category. Atleast this oscar has made Rehman popular in the international circle and going forward he would get his due recognition.

A. R Rehman does deserve the oscar award although i believe their are many songs he composed which are much much better then jai ho.But all in all it's great he got the recognition. :)

BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!man like A.R.RAHMAN is very rarely found whose thinking is like simple living and high thinking....person like him always earns good name....

Rehman's Oscar - Did he deserve it???

Hi,

Like most of us i did not see much of Rahman in life but I remember whatever I have seen out of him in TV interviews, shows and related media – nobody can deny that he is an intelligent, humble and task oriented man and has achieved an appreciation for his art rightfully in the form of two Oscars!

Some of you might remember the earliest one day innings of Sachin Tendulkar (I think he was 16 then) batting as only a carefree adolescent boy could in the tour of Pakistan…a saintly bearded K.Srikkanth was at the other end…Wasim Akram was the bowler and this young kid cut, pulled and showed a sort of fierceness which shook the world in a very unique way…After the match I recollect almost all boys in neighborhood homes coming out in the street and then saying “ now bowl to me, I want to hit a six”…Ironically everyone wanted to bat after seeing Sachin that day and none wanted to bowl…The pied piper or madness inducer of cricket had arrived then….in the Indian (perhaps cricket loving streets across the globe) streets that day cricket was happening with everyone playing as batsmen and no one as bowlers….often than not the magic of one soul could change the rules of a game(all bat, none bowls), alter the momentum of existing belief in to a new direction and blindfold a human being to believe in something which never happened before!

Such was the force of Sachin’s entry to cricket and such has been the force of Rahman’s entry to music too…his film Roja even made a person who is shy of opening his mouth in front of his own kid go out in the open and sing aloud the lines ‘Chinna Chinna Aasai…”With that song and movie (Roja) the magician Rahman had announced his arrival in the big stage of enthralling human beings…he exceeded expectations with each passing day, learnt to learn, adapted to differing cultures but still remained a man with his feet firmly in the ground.

“Jai Ho” was only a reflection of his ability to sustain the magic of faith and love and when Rehman said that “Oscar is only an appreciation of art but art itself is above everything else” it summarized his balanced attitude even at times of great glee and forward change…So was “Jai Ho” that magical Tendulkar’s straight drives like music that got rewarded with an Oscar?

NO! A BIG NO INFACT…The song score was far below many of Rahman’s own scores but the award was won because the intelligent man fell within the format of Oscars…he worked his way up from South India film to Indian and finally international music … Rahman understood the format to win an oscar, understood what makes people vote and delivered right on dot! He himself said that he spent very less time composing for the movie…now when you see a brilliant kid who also knows how to get 100/100 in exams wont you love the kid more or simply say that Oscars are an American version of things and not a true test of talent? I will choose to appreciate the kid and don’t know about the mentally handicapped people who say otherwise…

Did the song really have in it the essence to bag an Oscar? You should agree it had for sure – REASONS???

A while earlier when Slum Dog Millionaire was not yet famous with the Oscars we watched the movie in a theater where hardly 20 people were present…I noticed a disinterested Chinese old man relaxing in a seat nearby thinking that he would better sleep off after his night duty by using the A/C in the theater….but by the time the movie ended making us cry honestly at several stages because of the beauty of direction and impact of background score in music its gripping magic became an inevitable reality. I saw the old chinese gentleman getup shakily to go when the names were screened at the end of the movie but something made him stand still it was all over…it was JAI HO and nothing else….Rahman had won more than an oscar that moment and had crossed the barriers of countries to touch the soul of many across the globe! He deserved this Oscar man! He really did…

Rahman had now opened the doors of endless positive pressure on Indian composers of film music with his award…the already searching souls of Bala, Selvaraghavan, Yuvan Shankar Raja and many others will make it big and show that India really has it in her really to make it to the Oscars again and again and again…

Rehman grew up in the dust we played, sweated in the same Chennai weather and lived the same dreams we lived…isn’t it a privilege to recognize his sweat as ours and put our hands together one more time for the meek magician!!!

So what about Illaiyaraja guys? I think we agreed the Oscars are for human beings and not divine ones….Raja is a notch above the mortal musicians and will not need the recognition for now or forever….

Regards,

BJ
