A Leader Is With OR Without Followers ?

Is it really true that people say the more number of followers you possess the better leader you are! Do you agree with the same? Well even I agree to the same, some questions enter my mid like what if the followers are blind followers & blindly agree to whatever the leader speaks. Is the quality of such leader influential?

People want leaders that can create an atmosphere of risk and creativity. They reject intimidation or manipulation, and want to be recognized as an important part in these changing times. Many influential thinkers on leadership have pointed out that managers maintain structures and procedures, and very often the status quo. They achieve goals not because of position, but because of compelling vision, effective communication, mentoring skills, passion for a set of value, etc. Good leadership is the stuff of countless courses, workshops, books, and articles. Everyone wants to understand just what makes leaders tick—the charismatic ones, the retiring ones, and even the crooked ones.

Here are ten things that great leaders do to engage their employees and keep them on staff:

• Lead with humility and selflessness thus putting the needs of employees ahead of their own.

• Working tirelessly thus setting a great example for their team.

• Providing support to their workers when they have problems or get into trouble.

• Listening constantly and consistently to their workers.

• Responding immediately & openly and honestly when asked a question.

• Never show impatience or anger toward employees.

• Never speak negatively about employees behind their backs.

• Make good decisions for the business and for their workers.

• Understand that every person is different and that no two people perform the same way.

The true leader is a person that can adapt himself to many different situations, and never stops learning. He is always interacting with people, and getting everyone to work together with a common vision, so as to produce fantastic results. People will follow him without even recognizing they have taken on the role of follower this is what makes the leader different from the others.

Another question that comes to my mind is that “what is your role in the same is it a leader or a follower? It’s no shame being a follower. Those who are paying the most attention to your votes are those with the votes you need the most, who will pound signs, contribute and generally make the effort. It’s like you always say, “A leader without followers is just a guy out for a walk.”

A child who consoles another child and comforts him when he is hurt is a leader. A child who offers to lend his notebook to another child who has missed a lesson or two is also a leader. A driver who stops by to offer help to a person standing besides his car with a flat tyre waiting for help is a leader too. I am not saying doing other persons work is leadership. The essence of leadership lies in the process of influencing. Let's say that influence means one person's actions designed to change another person's attitudes, beliefs, values or behavior. Without influence we can't exercise leadership. A leader inspires discovery and initiates new paths to tangible success for the business. A leader’s complement is the influencers. They take critical steps to deliver success and discover more new paths along the way.

Good followership, by contrast, is the stuff of nearly nothing. Most of the limited research and writing on subordinates has tended to either explain their behavior in the context of leaders’ development rather than followers’ or mistakenly assume that followers are amorphous, all one and the same. As a result, we hardly notice, for example, that followers who tag along mindlessly are altogether different from those who are deeply devoted.
