On the Local Waterways or other Initiatives

That the Political Leaders lack original ideas is so apparent, it can be seen in virtually any sector. Take the Local Waterways transport where efforts to harness Sea has seen some announcements. The government leaders are apparently seen to push for its development lately with some high speed passenger links for some identified section which reduces travel time and possibly costs. This is well appreciated. However the current line of thinking to convert jetties into 'passengers only' terminal gives away our limited discussion on the subject. The commercial news media on its part plays to gallery with the associated lobbyist who are keen to push their wares by giving 'development' a specific twist and not having a free discussion which would open up many options. While Indian Coastal cities need to decongest their roads and have pushing passengers to travel to work by sea seems to be a logical end as this reduces pollution including possibly costs, however we also need to decongest the 'Goods' Transportation for the same reasons.

In fact a push for goods transportation actually allows Traders to build Warehouses to relatively 'far' off places where rentals are low. They can 'Ship' during the day (or at night as well subject to infrastructure support) to the 'shops' using 'Sea Transport' during off peak hours. This will possibly free up a room or two in their 'flats or Chawls or Kholi', and support to improve their lives. This would need a mechanized jetty to load and unload containers including a Container Freight Station Operators along side passenger Jetties and proper planning for smooth operations of either types or multi-purpose Jetties. A committed operation may have potential to bring down cost of 'vegetables & fruits' or Food, FMCG, Consumer durables in South Mumbai or locations in Chennai, Kolkatta, etc. besides reducing the clutter in those parts by giving people the option to move to some decongested part with good links by ferry. If new ferries can take 250 or more passengers, their could be ferries that can take about 10-20 containers which can be loaded/unloaded in a short time and support such transportation.

What we are witness to is haste to push some agenda without putting in place the rules for the 'game' or 'regulatory bodies', since such an operations is likely to have monopolies or an association of monopolies which is inconsistent with 'regulated societies' as some of the leaders & Patrakars including the 'nominated expert panels' are often seen harping upon, although their coverage on such aspects is almost always a shit or covered very fleetingly for reasons best understood by them. We are also witness to a rush for 'development' with all encouragement to bureaucrats to make 'honest errors' rather than to jog their brains or push for greater research to support 'data based decision making' with some errors to be signed off as political miscalculations ownership of which goes to the political leadership which though would lose vote, however can cite that the decision were taken publicly after studying solutions/options and were not challenged by parliament members or courts while they were made, being made.

Then we also have decision to go for Free Wi-Fi hotspots in cities at public exchequer. The commercial news media once again falls for the news as well as news maker delivering perception that a bonanza is on way for the ordinary public although the same public is paying for it in some form but this fact is not highlighted since there are no associated tax increases for present. So we have not one media person with all their honesty intact to question the policy for selection those areas and likely way to maintain the service (this is assuming the providers would initially be selected by tender process). Once the process of selection of areas for such hotspot is defined, you immediately have winners as well as loser areas and once maintenance policy is defined, the tax stats will make out who will be funding and how? In politics, you win some (support) and lose some and democratic polity is about being able to satisfy an overall majority to keep the 'power' intact or else lose it. The whole idea of these articles in Management Paradise is that instill the political change that has happened and it begins by changing the attitude of our political middle class that is commercial news media which is supposed to be representing common people while they question elected leaders. This has still not happened for the commercial news media with their honest Patrakars and the media as usual refrains itself from asking these little but tough questions since the Patrakar wants to maintain that cozy relation which they can brag about just as political leaders in opposition who want to 'maintain their influence on administration' and lets see how far this continues and also we will keep calling them 'Chor'.

Local waterways serve as vital resources for communities, providing not only essential water supplies but also opportunities for recreation, transportation, and economic development. In recent years, many regions have initiated comprehensive programs to enhance the health and sustainability of these water systems. For example, the Clean Waterways Initiative in the city of Springfield has been successful in reducing pollution through strict regulations on industrial waste and the promotion of eco-friendly practices among residents and businesses. Additionally, the initiative includes the restoration of natural habitats along the riverbanks, which has led to an increase in biodiversity and the return of native fish species. Similar efforts have been undertaken in other communities, such as the establishment of community-led river cleanup events and the construction of green infrastructure to manage stormwater runoff. These initiatives not only improve the quality of the waterways but also foster a sense of community pride and environmental stewardship. Through collaboration between local governments, non-profit organizations, and citizens, these programs are making significant strides in preserving and enhancing the natural beauty and functionality of local waterways for future generations.
