Integrating Chess in School Curriculum

One of the ways to increase interest in learning is to integrate Games and Art in learning. The elementary school curriculum should recognize the importance of activities, because young children cannot sit still for such long days.
The game of chess is one of the games that can be used to create the desired interest. Chess is a game for people of all ages.Internationally,the game of chess has been regarded as a game that can have beneficial effects on learning, especially when it is played from a young age. The following are some of the benefits of chess , as documented by Susan Polgar of the Polgar Chess Centre in New York :
• Develop analytical, synthetic and decision-making skills, which they can transfer to real life.
• Learn to engage in deep and thorough chess research which will help them build their confidence in their ability to do academic research.
• Help children gain insights into the nature of competition which will help them in any competitive endeavor.
• When youngsters play chess they must call upon higher-order thinking skills, analyze actions and consequences, and visualize future possibilities.
• In countries where chess is offered widely in schools, students exhibit excellence in the ability to recognize complex patterns and consequently excel in math and science.

Do u think Chess should be integrated internationally in school curriculum?
 
Hi,
Education through games is a very good idea.'Learn while you play' is fun.Chess is a mind game and while played from a young age will certainly help a child.But giving importance only to Chess is not a fair idea.Sudoku is equally good game for mind.Moreover there are lot of games that will involve your mind like Chinese checkers, Brain vita,Scrabble.So it depends on a child's interest to play a game.Some kid will be interested in playing Chess while some others will choose scrabble.So narrowing down to one game is one way of forcing a child to accept it.Not all kids have equal thinking power.Some kids are physically active.So a school must also groom that child.So it must also have some physically active games like Basketball,Volleyball,Cricket,Football and many more.Most of the schools have logistics and it is upto a child to play the games of their choice.But children don't have time to play games with their busy coaching class schedule.

Chess is a very good game for young lads to develop their minds and thinking ability. It helps in anticipating the opposite person's moves in advance thus enabling one to think ahead which is similar to what mangers do. This way he can make the desired moves to get the desired effect.
