Jaipur: After Lage Raho Munnabhai, Bapu has once again become an icon for the youth and Gandhigiri, the new funda for youngsters.
The burgeoning interest of youth in the concept is what made the Mahaveer Vardhaman Open University in Rajasthan decide on rolling out a six month certificate course on Gandhigiri.
The course, set to begin in January is already creating a buzz among the students. Irrespective of their chosen stream, they think a course in Gandhigiri will take them a long long way.
"It will help me make good relations with people, help solve day-to-day problems and above all, it'll help me gain patience and remain cool and calm. I think that's the best part of the course," says Shweta Acharya, a student.
The founders of the course feel that all this has put Gandhi on a high pedestal. If a movie can bring Gandhi back into popular consciousness, then a course in Gandhigiri will definitely take this a step further, they say.
Officials at the University say — the course is all about learning to resolve conflicts in a peaceful way. And what better way to take lessons in Gandhigiri than the scenes from Lage Raho Munnabhai?
"It will be useful for police personnel, management personnel. They'll learn how to solve problems through non violent methods," says course director, Professor N K Gatholiya.
While the University is still working on the finer details of the course, inquiries are flooding in the organisers hope the course will do as well as the film.
