We all want to know what yoga is. Yoga can be a sport, gymnastics, meditation technique, or even lifestyle. It is difficult to put a label on yoga, because the principle of this discipline is precisely to understand the body as a whole. In the Sanskrit the word yoga actually means "union". The union "of body and mind, sun and moon, masculine and feminine, yin and yang," according to yoga practitioners, because in the system of Eastern thought, "the head is part of the body."

The experts in this area define yoga as a comprehensive and experimental approach, based on a set of specific techniques which refer to the tradition of India. By a gradual awareness, yoga tries the harmonization of the human body faculties, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

Thus, yoga is a philosophy mediated by the human body. Unlike the usual philosophies, yoga does not just involve “thinking", but it is based on experimentation, which goes through body action (postures). In fact, yoga has emerged from this simple fact: since mental disturbance can affect the body, in contrast, acting on the body, it is possible to act on the mind as well.
