In an attempt to pep up its image and sales in the domestic market, Yamaha Motor India, the wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha Motor, Japan, has decided to have its new showrooms in international style.
The company plans to open more than 100 such showrooms in India. Yamaha Motor India the company sold 3-lakh bikes last calendar year.
The first four months of this year the company has sold 1-lakh vehicles.
In a bid to become a dominant player in the Indian motorcycles market, Yamaha India is planning to invest Rs 35-60 crore on capacity expansion and upgradation every year for the next three years.
Anticipating greater demand for its newly launched models, the 125-cc Enticer and the 106-cc Libero, Yamaha India will increase the capacity of both the models to 10,000 units per month each from January 2003 onwards.
Yamaha is also targeting to sell 1,00,000 units of the Enticer next year.
Apart from adding two new bikes, with an engine capacity between 100 cc and125 cc, in its portfolio next year, Yamaha is also planning to launch a new, more fuel efficient model of its volume spinner, Crux, which has made inroads into the rural/semi-urban markets.
