Yagna for Ganguly in Kolkata
A yagna was held in Kolkata for local hero Sourav Ganguly who turned out in a Test for India after a gap of ten months at the Wanderers in Johannesburg against South Africa, on Friday.
The yagna was held at the Nakuleshwar temple in south Kolkata where members of the 'Sourav Fans' Club' gathered in strength to pray for Ganguly's success.
A portrait of the former Indian skipper was garlanded and incense sticks were burnt. Large quantities of ghee were used as priests chanted mantras during the hour-long yagna.
Members eulogised Ganguly, while posters warned coach Greg Chappell not to treat the left-hander shabbily.
'Beware Chappell, the Royal Bengal Tiger is back', one of the posters read.
Elsewhere, over 5,000 people took part in a signature campaign by a local news channel in Kolkata to wish the cricketer, who enjoys a demi-god status, good luck.
With Ganguly back in the Indian team, Kolkatans are gearing up to follow the Test series with interest.
Ganguly's performance in the series was the topic of discussion in schools, colleges, offices and coffee houses.
