wud retail malls devastate small traders business

Yes malls will affect small traders negatively. But this will not immediate effect it will take time. But after that malls act as a bigger fish in sea and will eat small fishes.

Definitly, retail malls are devastating small trasers business. In india we see that a large chunk of population is involved in the business of Kirana stores or General stores. In retail mall culter, owner of the malls get the items either directly from the company and deliver them to public on discounted rate and via this route one complete communitiy of wholsaler, stockist and retailers is disappeared.

Counter argument against it may be that malls also provide jobs. But these jobs are very few in comparison of losses made by removing small trader.

All system become machanised and controle comes under the hand of some big players.

yes retail malls will definetely b going to adversly affect the small business traders bcoz the malls provides the consumers everything at one place, they r centrally located, provides entertainment, wat else d consumer wants ??so definetely it wll b going to harm sumhow adversely to the small traders.

no.Malls r a better options for consumers now a days compared to small traders, also they r a very good place to hang out... but as far as i ve noticed only a small percentage of population perfer buyin stuff at malls and these r the people i can say go shopping ones in a month may be. Then you have many small things u require on a day to day basis, thats when small traders are useful.

i dont think malls wil really affect d business of small traders if who can really affect den dey r food retail stores lyk subhiksha, more and reliance fresh.....

if you look from the consumers point of wiev, social interaction between customer and seller will decrease but the economical aspects will be good.

There is enough place for every one................................................................................

its true that a malls are devastating the small traders but if the malls can provide help to small traders as they can place them in malls by providing them employment thus this can act as a helping hand to the small traders also and also they wont go against it ........

To some extend yes, the retailers are facing a hard time selling their wares, my father owns a retailshop, and i have myself seen, people visiting shopping malls, buying consumbles in large family packs at discounted rates, but as of now where i stay in UAE, where shopping malls are everywhere, specialised grocers will become an endangered species. But the boon for grocers in india is the poor rich divide, still more than 50% of the popualtion is below poverty line, and these people becuase of their low confidence and their self put society status, will not visit Posh shopping malls, so the grocer lives unless all the indians becomes educated and confident enough to visit a shopping mall with a vehicle (becuase u have to carry a lot, i have an experience of walking with 20 kg of items for 1 km due to car breakdown in UAE ).

i think it will effect small traders in small states for example goa the land rates are sky high & no place even for McDonald to go there so such places will suffer with sky rocketing veritable prices this will create demand and i think the government itself will want few retail stores to come and invest there.

No way. Small Kirana Store will continue to enjoy the local resident support . Mall have become just hanging place to every one . Stuffs are so expensive no common men can't think of it . Sell affordable products & increase sales for your store which will always attract footfalls

bye

Shopping malls would surely have an adverse effect on small traders in the short run. But shopping malls, better termed as organised retail, would undoubtedly benefit the Indian retails industry in the long run. And the chief beneficiaries from the development will be the consumers. Moreover, small retailers can organize themselves into bigger retail units and can derieve the benefits of the economies of scale. Farmers can have a better deal to their produces through forward trading. Organize retail has the capability to generate more number of jobs and better paying jobs than unorganised retail. Shopping mall is the structure of future retail industry in India and should be welcomed with an open mind.

As far as i am concerned according to me malls are killing small traders. Before 3 to 5 yrs when mall culture ubiquitous there were many intermediaries. but now what is happenning due to mall poor are becoming more poor and richer are becoming much richer and even this malls donot give handsome amount of discount which should be given. This is the route towards unfair trade practices. i think some stringent and punitive action should be taken...
