University of Oxford

Who we are?

Established in 1996, Oxford University’s Saïd Business School is one of Europe’s youngest and most entrepreneurial business schools, with a reputation for innovative business education. The School combines the highest standards of academic rigour with a practical understanding of business and wealth creation. Our faculty are engaged in boundary-extending research on key management issues, in dialogue with the wider intellectual community and with practitioners.

An interdisciplinary approach
The Saïd Business School is fully integrated into one of the world’s greatest universities. This allows us to draw on Oxford’s strengths across a range of subjects, including sociology, economics, law, psychology, politics and international relations. Working at the interface of disciplines, faculty and researchers are mining rich new insights into issues such as the politics of global business, the rise of science entrepreneurship, the management of innovation, and the social and commercial impact of information systems and the Internet. By collaborating actively with faculty from other disciplines, we are aiming to transcend the traditional functional divisions of a business school in order to reflect the complex realities of business and society in today’s global economy.

Research strengths
We are a young school in an ancient university, but we have already generated outstanding research strengths in many areas, including: accounting; finance; marketing; organisational behaviour; strategy, entrepreneurship and international business; operations management; and the management of science and technology. The subjects of our research are diverse, ranging from the automotive, aerospace and telecommunications industries to professional service firms, the health service and the public sector.

World-class research centres
Our specialist research centres mirror the knowledge-intensive end of a creative economy. They are helping particular sectors to wrestle with the challenges they face and to discover new directions through research. They are:-

* Complex Agent-based Dynamic Networks (CABDyN)
* The BT Centre for Major Programme Management
* The Clifford Chance Centre for the Management of Professional Service Firms
* The James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization
* The Oxford Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
* The Oxford Financial Research Centre
* The Oxford Institute for Employee Relations
* The Oxford Institute of Information Management
* The Oxford Institute of Retail Management
* The Oxford-Man Institute of Quantitative Finance
* The Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation
* The Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship

Focus on the future
The Saïd Business School plays a dynamic role in setting the future agenda in the business arena. Our faculty are all at the forefront of their fields and provide intellectual leadership for institutions such as the European Commission, the European Corporate Governance Institute and the World Bank. They are committed to helping organisations stay ahead, whether by furthering our understanding of the Chinese marketplace, or by identifying the strategic demands of high-tech companies.

Why the Oxford Executive MBA?

Why the Oxford Executive MBA?
STEPHAN POIRIER, CANADA, SENIOR DIRECTOR, CALGARY AIRPORT AUTHORITY

"The international scope of participants, the reputation of the University of Oxford and the networking possibilities were all key contributing factors in my decision to select this programme."

The Oxford Executive MBA is a young and dynamic programme at the heart of an ancient university. The programme allows senior professionals to realise the benefits of studying at the University of Oxford while recognising their professional commitments and requirements.

The programme’s sixteen week-long modules immerse participants in the values we believe will characterise future success for nations, organisations and individuals: tolerance, flexibility, entrepreneurship, rigour, and breadth of understanding.

If you think you might benefit from the Oxford Executive MBA and the lifelong relationships formed through membership of one of the world’s greatest universities, we would like to hear from you.
FLEXIBILITY

The Oxford Executive MBA is a 21-month part-time programme. Delivered in an efficient, modular structure combined with e-learning, our programme enables participants to apply learning and project work directly to their organisations, enhancing both corporate and individual capabilities.

The Executive MBA programme consists of sixteen self-contained modules and an individual project conducted within the participant’s place of work. The total time commitment required away from the workplace is sixteen weeks and all courses, electives and exams are scheduled to take place within this timeframe. Additional study is required when not at Oxford in the form of individual and group-based assignments.
INTERNATIONALISM

Your class will provide the opportunity to build relationships with senior professionals from all around the world and from a wide range of sectors. Candidates gaining admission to the Executive MBA are high achievers marked out by their employers for fast track advancement. The overseas module is a new feature of the Oxford Executive MBA that will be launched in 2010. Sponsored by a different company each year, the module will be built around a particular theme and delivered by the Business School faculty. Participants will have the opportunity to experience a new business environment and culture while still accessing Oxford’s prestigious education.
NETWORKING

With students and alumni from all over the world and from an amazing range of sectors and organisations, Oxford’s Executive MBA forges powerful connections.

The Oxford Business Alumni (OBA) was established in 1998 and exists to provide a focus for Oxonians who have a special interest in the world of business. There are currently 23 regional groups (or Chapters) of the OBA, spanning every continent across the world. As a member of the Oxford Business Alumni, participants are entitled to access the alumni search directory, an invaluable tool for networking with organisations throughout the world. They are invited to attend regular seminars, lectures and other networking events. For further details, please visit the OBA website.

Oxford Business Networks facilitate the exchange of ideas and knowledge on business issues with other business professionals. They sit within the Oxford Business Alumni framework and together they are able to offer an opportunity for worldwide relationship building and sharing. Examples of existing networks include: finance, private equity, social entrepreneurship, consumer and marketing, government and international business, and communications and media.

Executive MBA alumni are offered the chance to refresh their knowledge, see each other, and renew their commitment to the School through an annual lifelong module. The content will be updated each year and adapted to participants’ needs and expectations.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

At Oxford we recognise that the most powerful unit of organisational and societal change is the individual. The Oxford Executive MBA builds personal development into its curriculum so that each student may address and accelerate their personal and professional development as well as their intellectual and technical development. The EMBA personal development curriculum includes profiling, coaching and career acceleration advice.

The Saïd Business School Careers Service offers a range of services to Executive MBA students including:
