"If there is an extension in the same product line by an up/down market or two-way stretch we call it brand extension (Sunrise coffee extended to sunrise premium and sunrise extra coffee), and introducing additional items in the same product line with a change of form (Lifebuoy soap as bar and liquid soap) is line extension. With reference to this what would be Lux beauty soap and Lux beauty liquid soap be called- line /brand extension? Given the fact that Lux beauty liquid soap is priced much higher than the bar soap, should we consider it as a line extension by considering their differential forms or should we consider it as a brand extension by an up-market stretch?"

Both line extension and brand extension are one of the marketing technique. And obviously companies will use it to promote their profit and increase sales.

But yes there is one more thing attached to the same as sometimes both this techniques are used to introduce a new product to the market which is targeted to a particular strata of people.

A line extension means introducing new items in a particular product category. For example, introducing a toothpaste with a new formulation to add to the existing line of toothpastes. A brand extension means leveraging the strength of an established brand to introduce a new product category. For example, Tata is an established name in steel. When Tata introduced salt, it was a brand extension.
