WHEN AN EMPLOYEE JOINS AN ORGANISATION HE COMES WITH A BAGGAGE OF QUESTIONS REGARDING THE ORGANISATION, HIS JOB PROFILE, WORK PLACE ETC..
HE NEEDS TO BE INTRODUCED TO THE COMPANY..FOR THIS MATTER AN INDUCTION PROGRAM IS DESIGNED BY EVERY ORGANISATION..

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE INDUCTION PROGRAM SO THAT IT CATERS TO THE NEEDS OF THE ORGANISATION AND HELP THE CANDIDATE TO FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THE ORGANISATION...

I THINK THE INDUCTION PROGRAM SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

1. Background of the company
2. Vision and mission
3. Company values
4. Areas of Operations
5. Expertise areas
6. Current talent pool & future strength target
7. Benefits to emplyees
8. Motivational programs & appraisal cycles
9. Employee Growth chart
10. Grieveance redressal mechanism

Completely depends on the type of organisation IMHO, if its a startup, you will mostly see leaders around who need no direction or induction, they carve their own goals and align it with the utimate vision, you will rarely see a HR manager in a startup, if there is one, he is multitasking with another function, most probably accounting.

MNC's have their own processes which are very apt, depending on the level a person is recruited for, the induction program varies in terms of duration and process.

I think induction should cover activities which make the newly appointed employee less anxious. For example, an induction program should familiarize the new member with the organization's objectives, history, philosophy, procedures and rules or it may include communicating relevent personnel policies such as hours of work, pay procedures, overtime requirements, fringe benefits etc.

The above mentioned is all about a formal induction but things can be done informally too. Like they do in IBM, the greet a new employee with cookies.

The employee should be handed over a bag by his supervisor which should contain:

1. a directory of phone numbers of all important people in the organization along with their designations like the company's Computer profession who needs to be called in case of a computer breakdown.

2. a sketch of the company's hierarchy.

3. a document which will say to whom is the person to report.

4. a document which will give him/her the idea of his subordinates and his colleagues.

5. a rule book- do's and don'ts in the organization.

and most importantly, a quickie tour to show where is the lavatory or the cafetaria.
