What makes JBIMS one of the B schools



Institute snapshot: JBIMS was founded in 1965. The institute puts the maximum weightage on quality of placement offered by it. Quality of students enrolled and quality of faculty come next on the weightage front, to be followed by quality of industry engagement, quality of infrastructure and student diversity. Till date, 46 batches graduated from JBIMS. In the academic year 2012-13, the institute received 1,00,000 applications.

Admission criteria and student profile: JBIMS admits students on the basis of CAT, CMAT and Maha-CET and the cut-off/percentile was 99.86, AIR – 55, and 99.86, respectively, for the 2012-14 batch. According to the academic history of students of the latest batch in the 10+2 exam, 39 out of 120 students received above 90 per cent and 71 got between 70 and 89 per cent.

In a clear reflection of the prevalent trend, engineering students dominate at JBIMS. In the 2012-14 batch, 95 students out of 120 are from the engineering background while 13 are from the commerce/BBA/BBS background. According to data of the same batch, 51 students have work experience of between 1 year and 3 years and 8 have more than three years of experience. SPJIMR has some work to do on the gender equality front as the number of female students is 27 in the 2012-14 batch. For the 2011-13 batch, the number was 20 out of 120 students.

Faculty details: The number of permanent faculty members at JBIMS stands at five (5) with 3 of them having PhD degrees from Indian institutes. The B school has 89 visiting professors.

Placement: Placement is considered one of the USPs of a B school and JBIMS’ record speaks for itself. As per data of the academic year 2011-12, all the 118 students who sought placement were finally placed by the institute. Altogether, 86 companies visited the campus for placements and the number of offers made and accepted was 257. The average and highest salaries for domestic placement were Rs 14.9 lakh and Rs 24 lakh, respectively.

BFSI emerged as the most coveted sector during placements, as it provided placements to 39 students in the 2010-12 batch. It was followed by FMCG & pharma (28), manufacturing & conglomerate (21), consultancy & IT (18) and others (12).

MDPs & conferences organized: JBIMS organized 8 MDPs in 2010-11 and 3 MDPs in 2011-12. It held 1 international conference in 2011-12.
