Nonmonetary Assets

What Does it Mean?
Assets in which the right to receive a fixed or determinable amount of currency is absent. This feature distinguishes nonmonetary assets from monetary assets - which are assets that can be converted into a fixed or determinable amount of currency - such as cash, bank deposits, and accounts and notes receivable. Nonmonetary assets include intangible assets such as copyrights and patents, goodwill, inventories, property, plant and equipment.

Re: Nonmonetary Assets

A non-monetary transaction is an exchange of non-monetary assets (including an exchange of equity shares for equity shares, but not including a non-monetary transaction involved in a business combination) between the transacting parties. This kind of exchange involves little or no monetary assets.
Examples are inventories, fixed assets, intangible assets, equity investments and debt investments not intended to be held to maturity.
