WeSchool celebrates Librarians Day to deliberate on the use of technology to connect with GenY

Mumbai, August 13, 2013: Librarians' Day was celebrated at Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development (WeSchool) on August 13, 2013 to respect the spirit of 'Librarianship'.

The event commemorating libraries and librarians across the world was aimed at elucidating the various steps taken to kindle the lost connection between a library and its reader. Libraries are trying to liberate themselves from the traditional cocoon to hone their information sharing capabilities through the adoption of state of the art technology. Channelling the myriad potential of technology, libraries are today getting accustomed to the likings of digital natives such as e-books, audio-visual materials, online databases etc.

With the presence of renowned personalities like Prof. Harsha Parekh, Ex- Professor and HOD, Dept of Library and Information Science S.N.D.T. Women's University, Mumbai, Mr. B.P. Prakash, Global Head, IRC, Tata Consultancy Services, Dr. S. Venkatadesan, Director, LRC, ISB, Hyderabad, Dr. Medha Joshi , HOD, LIS, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, Mr. M. K. Chettiar, CEO, Bharat Book Bureau, Prof. Vijayan Pankajakshan, Dean, HR, Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research and Mr. N.V. Sathyanarayana, Chairman and MD, Informatics (India) Ltd, the event was a reflection of the imminent evolution of libraries to technologically advanced knowledge centres.

Prof Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool said in his keynote address, "We are really happy to be able to celebrate the spirit of librarianship. The main aim behind this day was to discuss the need to convert libraries into futuristic knowledge centres, with the ability to add value to the education system through relevant TLP's.

Our endeavour through the event is to bring to light the best practices implemented by libraries and how to innovatively promote them as supreme centres of ideation and knowledge.

We also intend to stimulate reading habit which has drastically diminished over time through the use of technology. We believe that tech savvy GenY would prefer a balanced eco-system with content accessible both online and offline. Let us turn every corner of campus into a library. Let us leverage from each other's strengths and begin a new era of co-creation to encourage our students in performing better and set benchmarks that others will follow."

Another highlight of the day was the launch of 'InfoWe', a highly interactive portal at the WeSchool library. With separate dashboards for students and faculty, it will be a one stop shop for all the knowledge requirements with research papers, news updates, access to online databases, details on new arrivals and its availability (both print & e-books), student's book reviews and the like.
