wedvaan - The Thought Leaders Conclave reaches a grand finale,

giving impetus to new dreams, newer aspirations

February 25, 2013, Mumbai: Prin. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (Weschool) successfully concluded ‘wedvaan’, a management festival with a difference at its Mumbai campus. Over a period of three days from February 22- 24, 2013, ‘wedvaan’ hosted management students from top B-Schools across the country and took them through an entire gamut of thought provoking experiences like Business talks, competitions and workshops that were unique in every aspect.

With competitions like Mashup and Samarth, WeSchool once again tried to do the undoable and created new avenues for management students to explore newer learnings. Acting as a platform for ideation, ‘wedvaan’ has been an extraordinary learning experience for the MBA students that dream of not only kick-starting their entrepreneurial ventures but also have the desire to become the catalysts of social change whether in public life, corporate corridors or by taking the NGO route.

It wasn’t just about case studies , quizzes or competitions, ‘wedvaan’ was all about giving students a hands on experience to work with real entrepreneurs to come up with practical and sustainable business models. Mashup, Mark-Eat, Game On, Healthaholics and Samarth were designed to test the managerial and entrepreneurial skills of participants. It was an ideal opportunity for them to taste a sample of the real world and to analyse their own potential and capabilities. A notable event was ‘The Senate ‘ conducted in a specially designed environment that was akin to the Indian Loksabha where ‘political parties ‘ from different Business Schools debated on the various ‘Bills’ that are currently being discussed or are going to be discussed in near future in Indian parliament. The debates from the ‘proposition’ and ‘opposition‘ parties tested the political awareness and social consciousness of the participants, something that they are going to ponder and think about for a long time .The jury for the event had an eclectic mix of young, dynamic leaders from different political parties like Shaina NC, Spokesperson-BJP, Vinod Tawade ,Leader of the Opposition, Ganesh Yadav ,Leader-Yuva congress and Uday pratap Singh, Leader of the youth wing of NCP.

While applauding the efforts made by WeSchool in putting up such an unusual, thought provoking event, Shri Vinod Tawade said that,’ we do have political leaders that are highly educated and they are working with a spirit of taking the country ahead on the path of progress. If they are given proper training, they will be able make a much bigger difference .Young MBAs like you should therefore think of politics as a career“.

WeSchool has unquestionably proven its dedication in being an educational institution determined to make a positive impact on the society and this revolutionary initiative is a step towards the vision. Commenting on the grand finale of ‘wedvaan’, Prof Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool, said, “It is a very proud moment for me as WeSchool successfully completes ‘wedvaan’, The Thought Leaders’ Conclave. ‘wedvaan’ is not only about giving the MBA students a flavour of the real world and help them plan for the road ahead but also to instil in them the spirit of leadership, discipline ,innovation and entrepreneurship ,making them Game changers in true sense of the term”.

Prof. Kaustubh Dhargalkar, Associate Dean-Innovation, WeSchool, while sharing his views on the current management education system said, “The world out there is tough and classroom learning alone will not help a MBA student to face it. Today, a management graduate finds it difficult to perform the tasks given to him, not because he is incapable, but because he may lack the real-world experience to carry it out. Wedvaan is an opportunity to realise your own potential and career goals, it’s a platform to brainstorm with stalwarts who have set up business empires from a scratch, angel investors, NGO heads and develop an understanding of the ways in which the complexities in the world work and your own role in it“.
