If you are looking for branding you'd promote it with cost per million basis

If you're looking for sales, you'd go for affiliate marketing

You'd go for CPA if you are looking for leads.

If its an information product and you want more visitors you may go in for cpc.

Promotion tactics you could use are to give away a free ebook or something of value to the person visiting your online business.

Explain more about your business and you'd get relevant ideas.
 
We have to have better idea about the type of business that you want to do on the net to be better able to help you. Internet business is VERY business specific and nothing is general.

so far we have in the threads we see that a lot of revenue models have been suggested (like cpa, cpc etc.). But i would also like to add the concept of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Social Media Optimization (SMO). These are two of the most powerful tools to enhance the reach of your business.
