The season of vacationing is here. It is the time to kick back and splash some waves or ride a Yak in Shimla while eating green apples. Shouting your name off the echo-points , and taking tons of pics to upload on FACEBOOK ; which no one will ever see after a week has passed.
In all this fun and frolic we may forget to safeguard our property / wealth / anything of value. I have experienced this when I left my Cycle in the backyard , chained to a Pole ; but when we came back , it was nowhere to be seen. I had to walk a lot that summer in Chennai. (It is not all beaches , the humidity is hard to bear.)
So here are some effective tips that might come in handy from a Cycle-less cynic

- Make sure your home looks like there is always someone inside. Placing a cardboard cut-out roughly shaped like a human behind the Window-curtains and leaving a small bulb shining --can be effective.
- Let a few of your neighbours know about your absence and request them to watch it from time to time.
- Check the latch/lock on all the doors twice before leaving.
- Request one of your neighbour to pick up your Mail . (for step 1 to be effective)
- Ask the Newspaper agency to stop delivery for the stipulated period.
- Having a burglar Alarm will be nice ; if you can afford it.
- Keep your valuables in the bank or in Burglar resistant safes.
- Anchor your safe to the back of the cupboard or the ground.
