US Air Force has reportedly put in an application to source 300 Sony Playstation-3 40Gb consoles. No they aren't planning a mega gaming event, instead these consoles will be used to test the robust Cell processor and its military applications.
According to the filing the PS3 happens to offer the most economical cell processor that meets their requirements. "The Air Force Research Laboratory is conducting a technology assessment of certain cell processors. The processors in the Sony PlayStation 3 are the only brand on the market that utilizes the specific cell processor characteristics needed for this program at an acceptable cost".
