U.S. MBA’s Mortgage Applications Index Fell 39% Last Week (Bloomberg)
Jan. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Mortgage applications in the U.S. slumped last week by the most in 16 years as refinancing plunged. The Mortgage Bankers Association’s index fell 39 percent, the most since 1993, to 732.1 for the week ended Jan. 23. The group’s refinance gauge declined 48 percent, also the most in 16 years, and the purchase measure decreased 2.9 percent.
