Translation Services in Birmingham Care About Charities and Survivors of War

Absolute Interpreting & Translations Ltd, an accredited translation agency providing Translation Services in Birmingham, has recently worked on two different translation projects for Women for Women International, a charity organisation dedicated to helping women survivors of war.

Supporting women all around the world

Women for Women International has recently needed urgent translation services of two Films from Dari and Kinyarwanda into English and therefore decided to use Absolute Interpreting & Translations Ltd as it is the leading Translation Services in Birmingham and across the UK.

Absolute Interpreting & Translations Ltd is very keen on making the world a better place and as a successful business contributes to several charities. For the two translations Women for Women International needed, Absolute Interpreting & Translations Ltd proudly donated over 35% of its translation fees to promote the humanitarian causes of this well-known organisation.

An inspiring charity organisation

Women for Women International was founded in 1993 by Zainab Salbi and Amjad Atallah in order to help women who have lived through war and seen its consequences. At first, the organisation worked with Bosnia and Herzegovina only; today they help women in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Soudan. Women for Women International offers to enrol women from these countries in a programme to teach them basic business skills, help them become influential, educate them about health care and hygiene and create a network for support while helping them financially. Its goal: creating a positive ripple effect by educating and providing financial and emotional support to marginalised women.

The challenges of a complex translation

The two projects required by Women for Women International were a challenge for Absolute Interpreting and Translations Ltd, but one that was successfully met.

The first film required translation was an audio file in Dari that needed to be translated into English. The translation needed to be time-coded with 15-second lapses, however, the challenges faced were the fact the person speaking in the audio file was illiterate and the sentences used were hardly understandable in the source language and it was for this reason difficult for the translator as it meant he had to stop the audio several times to translate what he heard into English and then write it before starting again.

The translation also needed to be verbatim, which was really demanding for the translator as the person speaking in the audio file would not make a complete sentence in Dari. He had to reproduce the language mistakes in the translation and the proofreader helped ensuring the language style used in the target document matched that of the source file. Absolute Interpreting & Translations Ltd always uses qualified proofreaders to make sure the translation will ensure complete client satisfaction.

The second film was even more of a challenge as the translation required was from Kinyarwanda into English. Kinyarwanda, also known as Rwandan, is the official language of Rwanda and is approximately spoken by 12 million people around the world. However, qualified Kinyarwanda translators are hard to find; but Absolute Interpreting & Translations Ltd is very resourceful and assigned the perfect Kinyarwanda Translator for the job.

The new film was a video from a documentary film, and the translation needed to be time-coded again for subtitling purposes. It also had to be verbatim, so the translator had to reproduce the language mistakes made in Kinyarwanda in English.

These two projects required professional translators and proofreaders to make sure Women for Women International’s instructions were respected and Absolute Interpreting & Translations Ltd as the Translation Services in Birmingham proved to be the perfect candidate for this film translation project.
