I stumbled upon this quote and I just really thought it was great. The quote is

A woman who cannot be ugly isn't beautiful--Karl Kraus To me this quote speaks of the differnces between mattieral and physical beauty and inner beauty. That a woman, or a man for that matter could appear to be physicaly attractive but that says nothing about who they really are.

Anyway I was just really striken by this quote, if anyone else has any comments or thoughts please share

This is me, like it or not. You can point out my flaws and I'll claim them. I am human, carbon-based and there's nothing I can change about that. I'm as simple-minded as the next though I try to be, but I believe it comes with the opposable thumbs.
Still, I pondered
And wondered
If we will be torn asundered
For what have we?
No same cup of tea
Only two ends of the sea

Here's the scenario: if you had to choose between being emotionally numb, feeling little or no pain or happiness versus being in moderate pain (emotional and/or physical) on a generally regular basis, which would you choose?

On the one hand, I'd say take the pain as long as you get a few moments of true happiness...but can we truely handle exposure to daily pain, knowing there's nothing you can do to fix it?

Heres my 2 cents on it...

Pain = pleasure... Hot = cold ..

Ever had that really bad itch ?? The more you scratch it .. the better you feel .... the worse it gets...

Put a ice cube on ur hands.... it feels real cold.. let it be ther for a while.. as time passes.. it feels like ur hands are burning ...

Extremes are similar and thus proving... opposites attract.

I would choose pain. Atleast then, I would be feeling something as opposed to nothing. I would feel almost as if I were less human if I was numb all of the time. Sometimes I do get that numb feeling however, but I think it is due to pain rather than apathy.

Its how u perceive things.

A beggar can be happier than the richest man in the world, if the beggar is satisfied with the bread and butter he gets just sitting on the street.. compared to the rich man who keeps on working and raises all the funds in the world and then worries about tax .

On a certain day when the Blessed One

dwelt at Jetavana, the garden of Anathapindika,

a celestial deva came to him in the shape of a Brahman

enlightened and wearing clothing as white as snow.

The deva asked,

What is the sharpest sword?

What is the deadliest poison?

What is the fiercest fire?

What is the darkest night?"

The Blessed One replied,

The sharpest sword is a word spoken in wrath;

the deadliest poison is covetousness;

the fiercest fire is hatred;

the darkest night is ignorance.

The deva said,

What is the greatest gain?

What is the greatest loss?

Which armour is invulnerable?

What is the best weapon?

The Blessed One replied,

The greatest gain is to give to others;

the greatest loss is to greedily receive without gratitude;

an invulnerable armor is patience;

the best weapon is wisdom.

The deva said,

Who is the most dangerous thief?

What is the most precious treasure?

Who can capture the heavens and the earth?

Where is the securest treasure-trove?

The Blessed One replied,

The most dangerous thief is unwholesome thought;

the most precious treasure is virtue;

the heavens and the earth may be captured by the mind's eye;

surpassing rebirth locates the securest treasure-trove.

The deva asked,

What is attraction?

What is repulsion?

What is the most horrible pain?

What is the greatest enjoyment?

The Buddha replied,

Attraction is wholeness;

repulsion is unwholesomeness;

the most tormenting pain is bad conscience;

the height of bliss is redeemed awakening.

The deva asked,

What causes ruin in the world?

What breaks off friendships?

What is the most violent fever?

Who is the best physician?"

The Blessed One replied,

Ruin in the world is caused by ignorance;

friendships are broken off by envy and selfishness;

the most violent fever is hatred;

the best physician is the Buddha;

The deva continued,

Now I have only one doubt to resolve and absolve:

What is it fire cannot burn,

nor moisture corrode,

nor wind crush down,

but is able to enlighten the whole world.

The Buddha replied,

Blessing!

Neither fire, nor moisture, nor wind

can destroy the blessing of good deeds,

and blessings enlighten the whole world.

Hearing these answers,

the deva was overflowing with joy.

Then clasping hands, bowed down in respect and

disappeared suddenly from the presence of the Buddha.

confession to a father

A father passing by his teenage daughter's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was neat and tidy. Then he saw an envelope propped up prominently on the centre of the pillow. It wasaddressed "Dad". With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read
the letter with trembling hands:-

Dear Dad,

It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you, but I'm leaving home. I had to elope with my new boyfriend Randy because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you. I've been finding real passion with Randy and he is so nice to me. I know when you meet him you'll like him too - even with
all his piercing, tattoos, and motorcycle clothes. But it's not only the passion Dad, I'm pregnant and Randy said that he wants me to have the kid and that we can be very happy together. Even though Randy is much older than me
(anyway, 42 isn't so old these days is it?), and has no money, really these things shouldn't stand in the way of our relationship, don't you agree?

Randy has a great CD collection; he already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. It's true he has other girlfriends as well but I know he'll be faithful to me in his own way.
He wants to have many more children with me and that's now one of my dreams too. Randy taught me that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone and he'll be growing it for us and we'll trade it with our friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find
a cure for AIDS so Randy can get better; he sure deserves it!!

Don't worry Dad, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure we'll be back to visit so you can get to know your grandchildren.

Your loving daughter,

Rosie.

At the bottom of the page were the letters "PTO". Hands still
trembling, her father turned the sheet, and read:

PS: Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at the neighbour's house.
I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my report card that's in my desk centre drawer. Please sign it and call when it is safe for me to come home.
I love you!

Your loving daughter,

Rosie.

Can anyone actually be perfect? !!!!!!!

Can anyone actually be perfect?

Either it is not possible because noone can be perfect as they always have faults; or, it is possible to be perfect but it just depends on different people perceptions of what is perfect and whether you fit that mould...

SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bombay burns again shameless ...hedious work done by human on human.....jummu and kashmir burns every day...are we getting used to it....when shall we raise our voiCe!!!

I dont thnk ne1 wil raise their voice... we saw what happnd to the doctors n students strike..

We know what happnd to oil / petrol price hike strike.

The govt doesnt care a F*** .

I always thought of not leaving india.. but such inhuman acts make me rethink..

How many of u guyz plan to leave india given a chance ??

not me think the same i shall not leave india any way if we leave india to these b######s what shall be state of our country...i am putting up with doctors campus only and was part of strike and we are ready to blow back again...atleast we have learnt to fight...stand up yputh and pull these traitores down to dust dont leave....

The whole system is a traitor .. on top of that.. rang de basanti types are only seen in movies.. the fight for freedom is needed.. freedom from corrupt politicians.. but who will fight.. there are no bhagat singhs ... i want to fight.. i want to win the elections.. but who will decide if i m nt like the rest ??

Only a miracle can save India .

no miracle ...just us....if we think so nothing shall happen...rang de basanti is a vision not the solution kartik it is a thought fight ...propogate...this is what was done by youth for equality for full two months they propogated made medicos think ...and result is known...they stood united whole country`medico world was united

The fact of the matter is.. it dint move the government one bit.. it did not affect their decision.

then pull the government down...stand united ....protest and protest as happened resently in nepal.....to learn to make a signature is not sufficient ,...imp is to understand the meaning of that signature....

Yep.. pull the govt down.. the new one will be no better.. during BJP too there were riots.. same with congress.. and there is no stop to this ....

You all saw rang de basanti.. all were inspired.. but who has the guts to kill their own corrupt politician ? who has the guts to shoot the corrupt ministers like in that movie ?

Eventually, all care for themselves... unless u suffer.. you dont shout.. and those who escaped the suffering dont care a damn about those who shout .... this is the present situation...

I really hope that a revolution takes place.. but you have to pay a price for that...

Ultimately.. revolution is all talks.. the consequences are bloodshed .. and its not a one man show.. death is the ultimate deal and who would want to struggle when there is a way out....

Its better to bend during a hurricane and resume the fight after its gone.. than to break n go without leaving a mark...

wat a quote man ... very true...

if u cant be ugly.. how can u be beautiful....

a line to think overr....faults in a person makes him beautiful ..inspite of his or her flawss...:tea:
