SUBJECT: Announcing your loss of my vote (however little that may mean to you)

Madam,
It is a tragedy that we Indians have been for centuries ruled on one concept; divide and rule. But what is even more tragic is that the congress party which the people hoped would put an end to this colonial weapon has found the very same principle to be the panacea for its sagging prospects. Access to education and an environment of equal opportunities is definitely needed for the progress of society. But it is often poverty and not caste that limits these in modern India. If the congress party is genuinely and in heart bent on introducing an environment of equal opportunities it should bring in a system of social equality based on economic concerns. Sustainable development has taken place in countries where merit has been given the opportunity to prevail. In India no recent government has made a genuine effort to check what affirmative action has done in the past. It has not studied the factor of the creation of a closed loop of urban reserved families which have its members working in elite jobs sending their wards to the best schools and still availing reservation in the name of backwardness when in fact they have been given better facilities than the so called forward candidate. A system where an IPS officer’s (who himself was admitted on a reservation basis) son with access to better education than a general candidate becomes an IPS officer solely by virtue of his caste, despite being miles behind in the rank list, cannot be termed as social justice. It is just a system of appeasement of a section of the vote bank with gross negligence of the net effect it has on the quality of manpower the government spends its budget on.
There is no recent data of the true financial situation of the backward castes in this country. The absence of even an effort towards data collection shows how short sighted our government is. The union Human Resources Development minister who till recently has hardly done anything for the backward classes has suddenly taken note of Uma Bharti’s OBC based politics in his home state. He has asked the backward castes to unite
http://www.outlookindia.com/pti_news.asp?id=383276 (and not India to unite). It is amazing how people shy away from their own responsibilities and try to compensate for their inefficiencies by using government resources to attempt to appease certain segments of the society in an attempt to keep themselves in power. Implementing a 26 year old controversial proposal without an eye to recheck the ground realities and without even an attempt to let the poor but talented candidate from whatever caste they may be to to rise to his potential is obviously driven by political selfishness. These kind of divisionary and casteist policies will perhaps get you in power for a short time but will not keep you there for long and will ensure to drive the best talent out of this country. We end by reminding you that "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." We have had enough please don’t take us for fools – WE WONT VOTE CONGRESS AND ARE ARE SORRY FOR DOING SO IN THE PAST.

PS: You wont get the obc votes either; they are already linked to short sighted parties.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned
