Certainly not.Olympics is a forum for the sportspersons and athletes to show their skills and its their dream. Not only that,Olympics also serves as a platform for the hosting country to show to the world what they are capable of.Hosting an event like Olympics is not a child's play and the country should get ready in many aspects to make the event a grand success.Ofcourse I agree that a lot of money has to be spent to organise the event but the benefits are more than the cost.Take the case of China where the country is getting better everyday while preparing for the Olympics 2008.They have banned smoking and restricted the no.of vehicles on road.Even ppl like Taximen are trying to learn English to make the tourist comfortable.Ppl are getting civilised. The Olympics is going make a lot of revenues in tourist and lot of airlines are going to get revenue by this means. What I said was direct revenue.Even hotels around the stadium will get fulled and ppl will tour around China and buy chinese products which will generate a lot of indirect income for the country.Even the infrastructure is getting improved in China during the preparation phase for the grand event.
Do you still think Olympics is a waste of money?Pour your thoughts.
I do not think it is a waste of money. It gives people something to cheer and also brings people of all nations together in an atmosphere of serenity, co-operation and controlled, non-violent competition.
