The mobile Computing market

The advent of I-Pads and Tablets made mobile computing on the go interesting and the segment has grown well. What the growth may have hidden is how much impact it may have really caused to the traditional mobile computing segment or the Lap-top segment. The advent of ‘android’ and other similar operating systems and low cost software made devices cheaper while yet retaining their computing power which has risen to match some of the laptops which are used in professional environs. The laptop segment may have seen growth on account of mainly corporate segments as well as traditionally student segments which struck to ‘windows’ based computing. However the advances in cheaper linguistic software is sometimes often gives some edge to these relatively cheaper devices over the traditional laptops. These may be giving better user experience to home users and some of the other users may be tempted to convert to these devices.

This is edge may be just on account of how the product is used rather than any other measurable advantage. This is mainly because in android based devices usually they are seeking input through touch screens and multi-lingual key boards are embedded within the software. While the way traditional laptops or similar Windows devices are used generally by professionals and the inputs are through a physical key-board which is part of the laptop, which has linguistic restrictions. For a user to switch through languages is not easily possible unless he starts using a mouse and software based multi-lingual keyboards. Such a mechanism is often perceived as slowing one’s ‘speed’ or expecting processing performance. Now with languages rising on the top as concern especially in the word-processing segment and different language content being sought after by various users as well as their growing prominence in communications, the android devices are able to score better.

It is therefore imperative for the laptop device makers to introduce detachable keyboards to their devices, so that a user can easily replace the keyboards of the laptop and be in sync with the language with which he may prefer to work. Failing this the Calling Tablets with built-in features to accommodate separate keyboards (may be of different languages) would start to replace the traditional laptops with some of the users. Accentuation of this trend might mean a lot to some of the biggies in computing…
