The lack of Dalit ‘issue’

The lack of Dalit ‘issue’

The article from ‘Game’ would perhaps provoke some thoughts. This is because the ‘issue’ is being seen as a ‘decisive factor’ in currently propagated politics by the ‘commercial news media’. The key factor here is the hindi word ‘dalit’ encompasses nearly all who have been ignored by the system or the ‘shoshit varg’. Besides the ‘lower castes; the sense of the word encompasses the poor, (un-empowered) women which are aplenty or even all those overlooked by justice system and even petty self-employed struggling to make a living or the tribals struggling to retain control on the little property/land etc. even if the parties may have used it for just selected castes. All these sections feel connected to the sense of the word, having nowhere to turn to help but perhaps to the ‘God’ alone. This is because the ‘system’ offer little scope to them unless the political brokers are propitiated in all earnest with nearly all benefits cornered by these brokers. However in spite of the challenges, the ‘God’ still becomes another factor in politics and nearly all key Netas and parties want to champion either both or at least any one of these two principle factors. The readers of these articles in Management Paradise already know that the ‘issues’ mentioned here are basically exploited for the talk-shows by Netas now-a-days so that they can catapult themselves high in politics, and the same may have nothing to do with what they may actually want to accomplish by virtue of their having a chair in the government. Quite a few are attempting to find some new façade of probity while another set trying to prove point that this set is even more if not equally dishonest and being ‘equal in dishonesty’ is the new argument for getting a leg-up in the power struggle.

How these factors are championed for by the parties as well as the denizens of the commercial news media is very simple and on predictable lines and as per established trends. Basically the Netas as well as parties would choose to pick selected case/s which would be focused upon with the help of ‘kalakaar senior journos’ that abound aplenty and propped up by our ‘independent commercial news media’. The ‘sarkari (govt.) apathy’ which is actually quite widespread would be highlighted. And instead of call to bolster Justice Delivery system, calls would be made for tougher laws with no scritiny for either the investigative machinery or the actual justice delivery. The pattern of politics/Netagiri as well as the nature of bureaucracy has remained so over the years under political patronage from the Netas and parties who are united over maintenance of this kind of ‘management of/for the bureaucracy’. The other side would stumble over this ‘Bhagwaan ki marji’ and look for the ‘Godly issues’ which are supposedly dear to God and try to rally people behind the other principle factor i.e. God. The ‘Game’ is that ‘system’ should and must surrender to ‘God’s will’ with the ‘Dalit/shoshit varg’ being ‘His’ preferred and captive Guinea pig. There might be a complete lack of policies and programs with any of the sides on empowering the communities to draw some benefits from the system. However the denizens in the commercial news media as well as the Netas would ensure that they are doing their best to champion for the cause in fulfillment of the journalistic obligations towards the ‘shoshit varg’ even if there are no programs or whatever are announced is cornered by their own henchmen/political brokers. Then of course we have political Netas including another set of ‘kalakaar journos’ drawing their wageson account of coverage of Godly quests of people often ending in support of some mirth around some temple and its construction rather than improvement in either ‘human values’ or ‘quality of life’.

The crippling blow to the ‘system’ in particular for the state of education as well as health administration ensures that the two basic needs which are very personal in nature, but with the state taking responsibility and huge chunk of taxes for the same, remain an ever unsolved mystery. The banking and financial sector remain subservient to the Netas and their stooges and so does bureaucracy which is responsible to ensure smooth business, growth, development, welfare etc., with very little socio-economic mobility ensured by design. The dalit/shoshit varg remains truly Bhagwan Bharose and this has been irrespective of whichever party being in power. Further, divisions in politics basis castes or Godly lines is sought to be ensured with the commercial news media being pressed for its services double-time. In fact the chief grouse of the Netas and parties is the other challenger Netas and parties have done nothing over the ‘issue’ with each trying to skirt their own account. This remains so even as we have ‘development and jobs’ being the new war-cry for the Netas as well as the denizens of the commercial news media with each wanting to out-do the other in paying lip-service to the issue. In fact, what’s rather new is that on occasions, the Netas now are seen to compliment or at least distance themselves from the ‘charge of lack of development during the other Neta’s regime’. The collapse of government owned banks at the hands of their political henchmen/broker friends or the inflated sarkari contracts or industrial licensing of the newer variety that has emerged on account of PPP seem to be a ‘non-issue’ at least in public debates.

In fact some in the commercial news media have once again resorted to convey the message of everything being hunky-dory in Netadom as well as political parties and using ‘survey results’ to forecast poll outcomes in transmitting this message. The fact is that politics is now mostly about political brokerages and where the winner seeks to capture most of the brokerages. What the challenger wants is may be accommodation of some of theirs as well, however much of this depends upon their political strength. There might have already been rather crippling blow to some of the brokerages based political judgments or mis-judgments about the relative strength of issues of the main political parties and so a cause for much angst, heart-burn and rise in political temperature levels. The political jabaavdehi time for the Netas and party that is currently in power may have arrived and much of political uttha-patak and sir-garami that seems underway might be on account of the same with question from the ‘shoshit varg’ getting political patronage and media support and is further bolstered by electoral gambit in key state/s. This is somehow sought to be quelled under the noise and din for the political mecca called God in guise of Temple. With ‘Game’ and ‘tough question politics’, the Netas in ‘opposition’ have an easier tool to canvas for votes, however the impact on states that have witnessed an overall positive growth in jobs like Karnataka and Chhattisgarh in particular in the private sector is rather benign. The same has been the case for Bihar, which saw growth for low-level economic activity as compared to previous however, that doesn’t stop the Netas keep low defenses including all kinds of political concoctions even those which may have already lost their potency. However, in spite of all this, the ‘Game’ evolves….

The lack of visibility and discourse surrounding the Dalit issue in mainstream conversations is a significant and troubling omission, especially in contexts where social justice and equality are purportedly prioritized. Dalits, historically referred to as "untouchables" in India's caste system, continue to face systemic discrimination, social exclusion, and economic marginalization. Despite the efforts of various Dalit rights activists and scholars, the struggles and challenges faced by Dalits are often overshadowed by more dominant narratives, leading to a lack of awareness and empathy among the broader population. This invisibility is perpetuated not only in local and national media but also in international discussions, where issues of caste are frequently sidelined in favor of more globally recognized forms of social stratification, such as race and gender. Consequently, the global community's understanding of the complexities of caste-based discrimination remains limited, which in turn hampers the development of comprehensive and effective solutions. Addressing this gap requires a concerted effort to bring Dalit issues to the forefront of social and political discussions, ensuring that their voices are heard and their struggles are recognized as integral to the broader agenda of human rights and social justice. Only through such recognition can meaningful progress be made toward dismantling the caste system and achieving true equality for all.
