The baby with the hidden gender

Why do people care what gender Storm is?

Does it matter?

It is rather cruel, actually. Gender is largely socially constructed. If you remove an infant away from the gendred social environment in which we live then that child is deprived of gendered contact at a developmental stage. It is all very well to reject or alter the way you identify yourself based on how you percieve your gender in relation to your biological sex, but that is an adult decision. Not something to be thrust upon an infant.

I know precisely what gender is, thankyou. Indeed, I hope you noted the part of my post in which I outlined it as a social construction. And gender is not just a group of sexist stereotypes, it is a form of self identification as much as it is an identifier. These parents are denying, without consent, the ability of this infant the ability to be treated normally and identify with, and be identified by, other in a normal fashion which can only hinder individual social development. Which is precisely, I note, what was stated by an expert in Jack's link:

"To have a sense of self and personal identity is a critical part of normal healthy development," he said. "This blocks that and sets the child up for bullying, scapegoating and marginalization."
