India has a history of banning controversial films. The film Kissa Kursi Ka, directed by Amrit Nahata never saw the light of day after the government banned it and confiscated all prints. In 2006, The Da Vinci Code by Ron Howard, who adapted Dan Brown’s worldwide megaselling novel to the big screen, faced global protests by religious groups and in India the government decided to allow the screening with a disclaimer saying it was a work of fiction. Some states went ahead with the ban. (With additional information from agencies)
