The Australians are on a high after the 18-run win over India on Friday in Kuala Lumpur. Pace bowler Glenn McGrath spoke exclusively to CNN-IBN's Meha Bhardwaj on just how the Aussies managed to pull off a remarkable victory, the controversial recall of Sachin Tendulkar after he was declared out and also the final against West Indies on Sunday.
Meha Bhardwaj: We have with us the man who first got Sachin Tendulkar's wicket and then the umpire overruled the decision. Glenn MaGrath what was all that about?
Glenn McGrath: I was not really sure about it at that point of time. I thought we had Sachin out. I think the umpire thought initially that he might have got a bit of the bat or glove on it. And once the umpire thought about the decision a bit more he recalled Sachin back. The umpires are entitled to do that.
Meha Bhardwaj: Were you disappointed? Brett Lee got him in the next over.
Glenn McGrath: Yes it always good to get Sachin's wicket but I prefer to get his wicket legitimately and when he is not out. At the end of the day the right decision was made and whether that affected Sachin's frame of mind I am not sure and Brett Lee got him in the next over. So he could not do much damage to our team.
Meha Bhardwaj: You put up a total of 213 which was not a big target. You had to be at your best from the very beginning against the Indian batsmen and you did that. So are you pleased with that?
Glenn McGrath: Very pleased. I think we were six for 117 and to even think of getting 200 was a big ask but to get to 213 was very nice. It was a total that was defendable but we had to get some early wickets. With Brett getting Sachin and Virender Sehwag early our job became very easy.
Meha Bhardwaj: Now you are in the final. Like you target Sachin are you going to target Brian Lara?
Glenn McGrath: I will be happy just to get any wicket. It has been long time between drinks but I feel I am improving each match yet there are a few things on which I need to work on to get better. Hopefully that will work out in the final and we can win.
Meha Bhardwaj: I have heard you are really good at predicting score lines. You predicted the score line for Ashes and now what is going to be your score for the final.
Glenn McGrath: If all goes well then Australia will walk away with the Cup. That's what we are planning about and hopefully our batsmen can score plenty of runs and when it is our turn then we can knock down a few.
Meha Bhardwaj: All right. Let's hope that you do that. Thank you for speaking to CNN-IBN.
Glenn McGrath: Thank you.
