Historically, estate taxes have only been enacted to raise money in times of war. These taxes were repealed soon after the war. The estate tax should have been repealed following the end of WWI. And if the objection is to wasteful government expenditure, then the only way to cut back the size of government is to reduce the amount it has to spend.
