Tata Power to expand capacity in Orissa

Tata Power and two other power companies will ramp up their project capacities in Orissa. The three companies will enhance their capacities by a total of 2000 mw with an additional investment of Rs 8471 crore.
The Orissa government's high-power clearance authority, headed by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, on Friday accorded its approval to proposals for capacity expansion of the power projects. The authority also cleared the proposal of Adhunik Metaliks for capacity expansion of its steel project.

The three power companies have signed MoUs with the state government to set up coal-fired thermal power plants in the state.

Tata Power, which has signed an MoU to set up a 1000-mw project with an investment of Rs 4348 crore at Marthapur near Naraj in Cuttack district, is now proposing to enhance capacity to 2000 mw with a total investment of Rs 9154 crore in two phases.

KVK Nilachal Power is planning a 1200-mw project with a total investment of Rs 5000 crore at Gurudijhatia in Cuttack district, instead of 600 mw with a capital outlay of Rs 2580 crore.

Similarly, Monnet Ispat is proposing to ramp up the capacity of its 1000-mw Angul project with a total investment of Rs 4107 crore. The original plan was to set up a 600-mw project with an outlay of Rs 2852 crore.

Adhunik Metaliks wants to enhance the capacity of its steel project in Sundergarh district to 0.26 million tonne with a total investment of Rs 437 crore in phase I.

Earlier, the company had planned to set up a steel project of 0.15 million tonne in phase I with an investment of Rs 197 crore. The state industry minister, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, said the power companies were asked to strictly monitor the pollution level with better management of their fly ash.
