Synergy, a first-of-its-kind event, at Confluence 2012, IIM Ahmedabad aimed at providing a platform for budding entrepreneurs in technology based industries. The participant teams had to present their technical idea & business plan to the jury that consisted eminent people from Academia and the Industry
The jury comprised of Prof. Praksh Bagri, Worked as Director of Marketing & Sales - Intel Corporation; Prof: Sunil Handa, a well-known figure in the sphere of entrepreneurship & Mr. Pradeep Ranka, founder of Ranka Group.
Post an initial round of shortlisting, there were 5 teams shortlisted for the final on-campus round. ‘Team Tilzmatic tech’ from IMI Delhi stood first, Team NITW from NIT Warangal & Team APSV from SRM University shared the second prize.
Team Tilzmatic tech developed a web based application to provide services to Delhi metro users. Team NITW, consisted first year students from NIT Warangal, who developed a Hospital management System based on Cloud computing technology. Team APSV developed a collision free & accident control vehicle system that aims at reducing fatal deaths due to road accidents.
The unique format of the event that provided mentoring support from CIIE and IIM Ahmedabad students enabled Team NITW, which consisted of first year students of Engineering to compete with much older and experienced teams. Team NITW said, "For first year students of Engineering, we thought it would be difficult to compete with other but the support provided by the Mentoring team from IIM Ahmedabad helped us to brainstorm and develop a viable business with our idea". On the other hand, it was an opportunity for Team APSV to fine-tune their idea and get critical feedback. Team ASPV said, "We understand that we had a good idea but seeking feedback was very crucial for our project. And, Synergy exactly did that for us. Judges were extremely attentive to details and gave us very valuable suggestions"
The judges were impressed with the quality of the innovative ideas that came from the participants. Prof Sunil Handa saw a great scope for improvement and success in the ideas that were presented and commented, "I really liked the way the boys presented today. Especially the project and Delhi Metro & Hospital Management system have a huge scope for improvement and success."
Prof Prakash Bagri: "I loved the concept of the event - bringing tech colleges in touch with MBA institutes. MBA education helps in making an idea more executable. It helps you understand your strengths and focus areas."
Mr. Pradeep Ranka: " I personally felt the confidence with which the teams presented and the passion they had was phenomenal. I can see some areas of improvement in the event and considering the first edition of Synergy happening this year, I am sure this event would be immensely helpful to such entrepreneurs in coming years"
