Using Binatone Router with BSNL Broadband Connection
Inorder to use your Binatone Wireless Router with BSNL Dataone broadband connection, you need to downgrade the firmware. My router is Binatone DT845W. I got this router with my Airtel broadband connection in Bangalore. When i shifted to Kerala, i took a BSNL broadband connection. Airtel broadband executive had upgraded the firmware to DT4W-A1.006 For using BSNL connection, i downgraded the firmware to DT4W-A1.002 Download the firmware for Binatone DT 845W After the installation of the firmware, do the following. Tab: Interface Setup -> Internet Select Virtual Circuit as PVC2 VPI = 0 and VCI = 35 Disable all other Virtual Circuits. ATM QoS = UBR PCR = 0 ISP = PPPoA/PPPoE Servicename = leave it blank Username = username which you got from BSNL Password = password which you got from BSNL Connection = Always On Get IP Address = Dynamic NAT = Enable Defaut Route = Yes TCP MTU = 1454 or 1492 Dynamic Route = RIP2-B Direction = Both Multicast = Disabled Mac Spoofing = Disabled

Extreme Performance Tuning of Windows XP
Warning : This may not be suitable for all. Follow these steps if you want your system to be lightning fast. Disclaimer : The list is not complete. I came up with this list from the experience i got from working with my 5 year old machine with 512 MB Ram and partially working motherboard.
1. Disable Visual Effects Right click on My Computer, select Properties, go to Advanced -> select Settings under Performance -> Select Adjust for best performance. 2. Set virtual memory to double of your RAM. Keep the Initial and Maximum size same. 3. Keep the size of your C: drive (drive where you install Windows) at 10 GB 4. Install all programs in D:\Program Files\ 5. Disable sounds (control panel) 6. Disable system restore 7. Disable Error Reporting 8. Disable Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop if you do not use them 9. Remove Desktop background 10.Remove all unwanted startup programs 11.Disable all unwanted services. 12.Uninstall all unwanted programs. 13.Defragment all disks 14.Disable Desktop Cleanup Wizard 15.Uncheck “Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching” after right clicking each drive. 16.Run CheckDisc once in a while 17.Unshare all useless shared folders and files. 18.Uncheck hide inactive icons. 19.Run diskcleanup once in a while 20.Delete system restore files 21.Remove Windows Messenger 22.Use classic start menu 23.Disable hibernation if you are not using that.? NB: Hibernation is a better method than sleep for saving time.

Before going in for configuration or changing password Assign IP Address to the NIC
Step-1: Open internet explorer, type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter. Step-2: Type Username as admin and Password as admin and Click on OK button. Step-3: Click on WAN Button on the left hand side. Step-4: On the right hand side, scroll down - delete the default user name and password and type the Username and Password as given by BSNL NIB. Click on Apply. Step-5: Click on the Advanced Button on the right side - top row. Step-6: Scroll down and Click on ADSL Button on the left hand side. Step-7: On the right hand side, click on the Modulation Type drop down list and select Multi(ADSL). Click on Apply. Step-8: Click on Tools Button on the right side - top row. Step-9: Click on Misc Button on the left hand side. Step-10: Click on Save & Reboot button in the middle of the right side screen. System is rebooting. Please wait... This page will auto-redirect to main page screen will appear for few minutes. When the Home Page appears again, Close the internet explorer. Wait for the lamps to settle and start browsing. You have successfully configured UT300R2U modem. Having configured the modem, go to internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties again and take off the IP Address assigned by selecting Obtain IP address automatically radio button.
Changing the Password - UT300R2U

Connecting on Dialer Mode.

Unlike other modems, this modem cannot be connected directly in the dialer mode after creating the dialer as this is by default configured for PPPoE. Hence some settings are to be changed (to bring it to Bridge) so that you can connect this modem for dialer mode working. Unless this is done, link lamp will not glow in the dialer mode.
Before going in for changing the settings Assign IP Address to the NIC
Step-1: Open internet explorer, type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter. Step-2: Type Username as admin and Password as admin and Click on OK button. Step-3: Click on WAN Button on the left hand side. Step-4: Scroll down the right hand side. Under WAN Settings, by default, PPPoE/PPPoA Radio Button is selected. Click on Bridge Mode Radio Button. Step-5: Click on the Connection Type drop down list just below Bridge mode radio button and select 1483 Bridged IP LLC and click on Apply. Step-6: Click on the Advanced Button on top. Step-7: Scroll down and click on ADSL Button on the left hand side. Step-8: On the right hand side Modulation Type drop down list, select Multi (ADSL) and click on Apply. Step-9: Click on Tools Button on top. Step-10: On the left hand side, click on Misc Button. Step-11: On the right hand side, click on Save & Reboot button. System is rebooting. Please wait........ The page will be auto-redirect to main page. - screen will appear for some time. After 2 minutes the home page will appear again. Now you can close the internet explorer and the modem is now ready for dialer mode working. Having changed the settings in the modem, go to internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties again and take off the IP Address assigned by selecting Obtain IP address automatically radio button.
SPLITTER CONNECTIVITY

Please check whether the connections are firm between rosette, splitter and modem. If the connections are interchanged in the splitter, the link will blink and will not become stable. (The wire coming from the exchange should be connected directly tothe Line jack of the splitter. Modem should be connected to the Modem or ADSL jack of the splitter and Phone should be coonected to the Phone jack of the splitter)
Please check whether you are using a lengthy PVC wire from the modem to the splitter. (The wire from the modem to the splitter should not be more than 1-1/2 meters. PLEASE NOTE: No telephone extension cabling is to be used to connect the modem to the splitter, as this was not designed to carry a broadband signal.
If the connections are firm and perfect, and still unable to get link, please call Toll Free number 1800 424 1600, book a complaint and wait for technical assistance.

On the right hand side, Click on Run Wizard Button. Set up Wizard screen opens. Click on Next.
Step-5: Click on the Time Zone Drop-down list and select (GMT + 05:30) Indian Standard and then click on Next. Step-6: Set Internet Connection type (WAN) window, click on PPPoE/PPPoA Radio button and click on Next. Step-7: Type the Username and Password in the respective text boxes (delete the default username - guest) and click on Next. Step-8: Click on Restart. Setup Completed Please Wait... Dont close this window until the modem reboot automatically window appears. Wait for sometime. Step-9: This device has rebooted successfully screen will appear. Click on Exit.
Now you have successfully configured the UT300R2U modem through the wizard. Close the internet explorer. Wait for the lamps to settle and then start browsing.
Having changed the password in the modem, go to internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties again and take off the IP Address assigned by selecting Obtain IP address automatically radio button.
Lamp Indications:
Power: This LED will glow as soon as you switch on the modem.
Status:
This LED will blink if there is some activity in the modem.
ADSL Link/Act: This LED will start glowing permanently when the connectivity between the Exchange equipment/switch and your modem is proper/established.
Ethernet: This LED will glow as soon as you switch ON your computer if the computer is connected to the modem through the Ethernet/LAN/NIC card. Or
USB: This LED will glow as soon as you switch ON your computer if the computer is connected to the modem through the USB port.
How To setup PPOE mode (Automatic Dialing) in UT300R2U,WA3002G4

This tutorial will help you configure PPOE mode in UT300R2U as well as WA3002G4.These steps can also be followed for other modems also.. basic principles like changing to PPOE and editing the 0/35 vpi/vci (for bsnl) remains the same.PPOE mode has its own advantages.It makes life simple, all you need to do is switch on your modem and voila you have your internet on already..No need to do any dialing whatsoever..Also it has an added security , it blocks traffic and does not allow all traffic to flow to your computer. THats where port forwarding is used to enable traffic to certain pcs on certain ports.So here goes: Step 1:Login to your router's menu by going tohttp://192.168.1.1 and enter admin as username and password
Step 2:You will see a page similar to this
Step 3:Now go to Advanced Setup->WAN and click on the EDIT button under VPI/VCI 0/35 (normally the first option) .
NOTE:For other modems the EDIT button could be in the form of a pencil icon or a notepad icon
NOTE:VPI/VCI 0/35 is for bsnl only. for MTNL it is 0/32 . It varies from ISP to ISP
Step 4:Now you will see a page similar to this.Make sure settings are like as shown in the screenshot and click on Next
Step 5:Here you have to make sure that you SELECT PPOE MODE as shown in the screenshot.Select the radio buttton next to PPOE MODE and click on NEXT
Step 6:I guess the screenshot explains it all.. Enter you ISP(bsnl) username and password in the PPP username and password field(as indicated in the screenshot).Leave all other settings as shown in the screenshot.
Step 7:CLick on NEXT and then save/reboot your router and thats about it.No more dialing required.You can confidently delete the Dialer icon from your Desktop
