Q1. Tell us something about yourself?
Hi, I am Sujitkumar. I am a graduate from K J Somaiya College of Engineering, Vidyavihar in Electronics and Telecommunication. After graduation, I worked for 3 years in Tata Consultancy Services.
Q2. Describe life at JBIMS
Life at JBIMS is hectic. I am in a position to compare this with other B schools as I had spent few weeks in one, where I had taken admission before the results of JBIMS were declared. However, this is very useful to the students as it prepares them to face much more strenuous and taxing schedules in their future assignments. It has also been a great learning experience. I had the opportunity to interact with some of the alumni of this college who are holding top positions in the corporate world and still find time to interact with the current batch of this college.
Q3. How did you prepare for CMAT?
I was preparing for many B school entrance exams when AICTE announced CMAT. Since, it was being conducted for the first time; no one knew what kind of questions would be asked in the exam. I always find General Knowledge (GK) section difficult compared to other sections and it was going to be part of CMAT exam. So my preparation for CMAT involved mostly studying GK. I referred old CAT papers for other sections of CMAT.
Q4. What is the difficulty level of CMAT as compared to CAT?
CMAT was easier compared to CAT. Also, the number of test takers for CMAT was less than CAT.
Q5. What was your strategy to crack CMAT?
The exam was of 3 hours and there were 100 questions to solve. The 100 questions were divided into 4 sections: English, Quant, GK and LR each consisting of 25 questions. So there was ample of time to spend on each question. My strategy during the exam was to spend more time on Quant and LR sections than the other 2 sections.
Q6. What were the difficult sections in CMAT for you?
I found English and GK sections difficult compared to other sections.
Q7. Which section needs your utmost preparation?
General Knowledge section.
Q8. How did you practice time management during the exam?
CMAT, CAT and XAT exams stress more on accuracy than speed. In CMAT exam, time was never an issue as students had to solve 100 questions in 3 hours. My strategy during the exam was to spend more time on Quant and LR sections than the other 2 sections. However, I could complete the paper in less than half the total time for the exam. So the future CMAT test takers should focus more on accuracy.
Q9. How was your GDPI experience?
GDPI was good, especially the PI. The GD topic was on current affairs. The PI panelists asked me questions based on my responses in the questionnaire that I was asked to fill before the GDPI process.
Q10.What did you do a day before the CMAT exam?
I had my XLRI and NMIMS GDPI scheduled just after CMAT exam. So I was preparing for them a day before the CMAT exam. One should relax or should involve in something which is not related to the entrance exam scheduled on next day. The future MBA aspirants should keep this in mind.
Q11. Give some tips for GDPI and CMAT preparation for your juniors?
They should focus more on current affairs as GD topics in CMAT/CET would be based on current affairs. Even the PI questions could be based on the recent political developments in India or Maharashtra. The CMAT test takers should focus on critical reasoning questions as they form a major part of the English section. They should also focus on the applications part while preparing for the Quant section. Since the questions asked in LR section of CMAT is similar to MBA CET, the test takers should solve mock CET papers.
