Description
Competitive advantage seeks to address some of the criticisms of comparative advantage. Michael Porter proposed the theory in 1985. Porter emphasizes productivity growth as the focus of national strategies.
Enhancing the Low Carbon Competitive Advantage Across the Manufacturing Sector of the Hong Kong Apparel Supply Chain Through Effective Carbon Disclosure & Carbon Emission Reduction
Clothing Industry Training Authority Background Hong Kong, as one of the major sourcing hubs of the global apparel industry, can achieve and sustain low carbon competitive advantage if its factories can provide more effective carbon footprint disclosure, as well as to reduce the carbon footprint of their products by continuously improving their efficiency of processes and operations. Currently, there is no standard methodology and practices in disclosing product carbon footprint. Also, no case study is available to demonstrate how factories across the manufacturing sector of the Hong Kong apparel supply chain can effectively disclose their product carbon footprint. Objectives The main goal of this project is to develop appropriate methodologies to acquire knowledge, experience and best practices for factories managed by SMEs across the manufacturing sector of the Hong Kong apparel supply chain in order to assess and understand their product carbon footprint, effectively disclose their product carbon footprint, identify carbon emission reduction opportunities, and act against such opportunities to build their low carbon competitive advantages. Project Contents Devise a Guidebook for the assessment and disclosure of the carbon footprint across the manufacturing sector of the Hong Kong apparel supply chain. ? Compile not less than five reports on how participating factories of this project can build their low carbon competitive advantages by identifying carbon emission reduction opportunities and the ways and means of reducing product carbon emissions. ? Conduct five seminars and six workshops to publicise the guidebook so as to facilitate the building of the low carbon competitive advantage of the SMEs across the manufacturing sector of the Hong Kong apparel supply chain.
