Students should be given grades instead of marks!!!

If students are evaluated on the basis of marks , is there any scope for the child's improvement??
Whereas,in grading system Students who have scored high felt disappointed, as the new system does not differentiate between high and average scorers.

Some teachers felt that the new system is more encouraging for average scorers as it has killed competition.

What's ur opinion about it....

Apparently this seems to be a very short sighted approach as you are not making the students ready for reality.

If the reason of inducing grades is reducing competition at school level to boost a students confidence, then it is the wrong way about doing things.

Students should be exposed to better ways of assimilating knowledge and the education system needs a revamp in terms of subjects taught and the way knowledge is put to test.

The way I see it, our system ranks students on base of how effectively they mug things and reproduce it on paper. Since the output of this process was very competitive, the system enthused grading system so that it becomes less competitive but the real solution is to come up with an alternative to the root cause of methods for evaluation.

Lets just hope the education system soon changes for the better.

If As are rare, then most students still see a need to improve. If you give everyone an A, then I would agree with you. The problem with marks is that the basis of difference between an 86 and an 87 is likely to be statistically insignificant, especially if what is being graded is subjective material, such as essays. It is likely that the student with the 87 would feel superior to the one with an 86, and that the student with an 86 would feel cheated out of a point. By using the broader grades, we are being more realistic in our marking. I can explain the difference between an essay which received an A and one which received a B (or even an A-). I can't explain logically the difference between one which received a 87 and one which received an 86.

Let me ask all of you a question. If a student has very higher marks in one subject so we will understand that the student understands this subject well and have great knowledge. Suppose that the question paper had been very easy at that year. What do you think about it?

First of all its not about the score or the grade that makes you a champion. But its your own hardwork, determination, focus that is a catalyst for your overall development and growth.Percentage and grades are just inefficient to value a student's skills, capabilities and his determination.Coming to your question I feel both system can be effective in measuring a child's overall intellect. The concept of grading can be introduced in subjects based on morality, social sciences and past history while subjects based on testing the quantitative abilities and logical reasoning may be evaluated in terms of marks.Evaluating a child on the basis of grade is chapter that require digestion if facts and figures would be just to those students who may be from a background different from the medium in which the subject is communicated while percentage system in practical subjects can be just to each and every student as the mind is tested here and not the ethnic he comes from.
