Kerrick, S. (2008, May). Dissertation: “An Examination of Entrepreneurial Intentions of University
Students.” The entrepreneur literature is lacking empirical studies investigating the construct of
entrepreneurial intentions. Given that the decision to found a firm can be regarded as reasoned
action or planned behavior, entrepreneurial intentions investigation is warranted. Intentions have
value based on planned behavior, as its existence is potentially a factor for becoming an
entrepreneur. The purpose of this study is to explore university students’ locus of control,
curiosity, risk propensity, creativity, entrepreneurial attitudinal orientation, characteristics and
traits leading to intentions to become an entrepreneur. It also examines the relationship among
university students of various majors throughout a mid-sized mid-western university regarding
their entrepreneurial intentions.
