SINGAPORE: Former President of Singapore S R Nathan endured a stroke on Apr 14, his family said in an announcement on Wednesday (Apr 22).

The 90-year-old previous President of Singapore endured a stroke on Tuesday (Apr 14). He is recouping now and experiencing treatment, his family says.

The announcement peruses as takes after: "Previous President S R Nathan endured a stroke last Tuesday 14 April and was admitted to doctor's facility. He is recuperating and is currently experiencing treatment."

Mr Nathan, 90, is presently recuperating at the Singapore General Hospital.

On Wednesday evening, Dr Tony Tan imparted on Facebook that he and his wife "were both extremely concerned" when they learnt that Mr Nathan was warded last Tuesday for "discharge in the mind".

"We are alleviated that his condition has subsequent to balanced out. When we went to him at the doctor's facility recently, we were glad to see that he was in great spirits and anticipating being released," he included. "We wish Mr Nathan a rapid and full recuperation and the absolute best of wellbeing."

Mr Nathan was the 6th and longest-serving President in Singapore, and was in office for two terms from 1999 to 2011. He formally ventured down as President on Aug 31, 2011 in the wake of declaring that he would not look for a third term in office. He was succeeded by President Tony Tan Keng Yam.

He additionally served as Singapore's Ambassador-everywhere, and later expert chancellor of the National University of Singapore.
