I just watched a National Geographic special about solitray confinement. Guess how many long term prisoners we have of that type? Over 80,000 at any given time.
One man--Who's crime was larceny..no, not murder--larceny--has been in solitary confinement for 13 years.
How is this not cruel and unusual punishment? How is it not capital punishment? If you destroy someoen's mind by driving them insane from loneliness, how is that different from killing their body?
Why do these people have no activists?
Why is the prison warden allowed to arbitrary add years more solitary confinement time for petty offenses like attempting to communicate with other inmates and refusing to approach the cell door? I would understand if they could add days at a time..but they can add 6 months for each offence!
