Slot Zero Report: IIM Calcutta

Slot Zero Report: IIM Calcutta

The slot-zero summer placement process for the batch of 2010-2012 of IIM Calcutta took place over two days, 10th and 11th November. The first day saw international investment banks, private equity firms and global consulting firms pick students, while the second day of slot-0 had firms like Hindustan Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Tata Administrative Services (TAS), Diageo, Aditya Birla Group and Edelweiss offer marketing, general management and finance profiles.

This year, IIM Calcutta has witnessed a huge increase in the number of offers made, with well-over 200 offers being made in the first two days of the placement process, which is higher even than the pre-recession slot-zero figures of 2007

Day-1:

The coveted first day of the process saw investment banks and consulting majors hire with gusto, with close to 100 finance offers being made by investment banks, private-equity firms and for the first time in recent history, even a hedge fund. Apart from them, consulting firms hired in larger numbers as well, leading to well over a 100 offers being made on the first day. Firms visited include banks Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Barclays Capital, JPMC, UBS, Credit Suisse, RBS, Nomura and BoA Merril Lynch, Consulting firms like McKinsey & Co, Bain & Co, BCG, ATK and Private Equity firms Jacob Ballas, Clearwater Capital, Multiples private Equity and Walden International. The highlight of the day was a hedge fund recruiting from campus, as they usually do not hire from Indian B-schools.

Day 2:

Around 100 offers were made on the second day of slot 0, with a variety of profiles like marketing, general management and finance profiles being offered to students. Marketing roles were offered by HUL, P&G, Coke and Pepsi among other firms. TAS, one of the most preferred recruiters on campus, picked students for their leadership programme. Aditya Birla group hired students for general management profiles while Edelweiss, Citibank and Standard Chartered offered finance profiles.

More than 60% of the students in the batch have been placed in slot-0 over the two days.
