SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP MODEL
Leadership process in any given situation is interplay of the following three variables: ? TASK BEHAVIOR:The amount of guidance and direction a leader gives. ? RELATIONSHIP BEHAVIOUR: The amount of socio-emotional support a leader provides. ? The READINESS LEVEL that followers exhibit in performing a specific task, function or objective.
TASK BEHAVIOUR OF A LEADER
The amount of guidance and direction a leader provides. ? Goal setting: Specifies the goals people are to accomplish ? Organizing: Organizes the work situation for people. ? Setting time frames: Sets time limits for people ? Directing: Providing specific directions ? Controlling: Specifies and requires regular reporting on progress.
RELATIONSHIP BEHAVIOUR OF A LEADER The amount of socio- emotional support a leader provides. ? GIVING SUPPORT: Provides support and encouragement. ? COMMUNICATING: Involves people in discussions about work activities . ? FACILITATING INTERACTIONS: Facilitates people’s interactions with others. ? ACTIVE LISTENING: Seeks out and listens to people’s opinions and concerns. ? PROVIDING FEEDBACK: Provides feedback on people’s accomplishments.
READINESS LEVEL
? Readiness level is defined as the extent to
which a follower has ABILITY AND WILLINGNESS to accomplish a specific task. ? Ability is the knowledge, experience and skill an individual brings to a particular task or activity. ? Willingness is the extent to which an individual has the commitment and motivation to accomplish that task.

? R1: Low Readiness Followers unable and
unwilling ? R2: Moderate Readiness Followers unable but willing ? R3: Moderate Readiness Followers able but unwilling ? R4 High Readiness Followers able and willing
