LOS ANGELES: Sidney Sheldon, the best-selling author and award-winning screenwriter and television producer, has died of complications related to pneumonia at the age of 89.
Sheldon, a native of Chicago, won the Academy Award for best original screenplay in 1947 for The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer.
Sheldon, who died late on Tuesday, wrote and produced the popular television series The Patty Duke Show and I Dream of Jeannie.
He later turned to writing best-selling novels, several of which were turned into films. His titles include Bloodline, Rage of Angels, The Other Side of Midnight, and If Tomorrow Comes.
