In many countries around the world individuals can choose to vote, or not to vote, as they see fit. But also in some countires like Australia , switzerland voting is made complusory.

Should voting in elections made compulsory? Also state if people donot vote what kind of punishment should be enforced?

All of us are really in the world of cribbing where we dont want to come forward and contribute. When a false leader comes to power, we blame the systems. But all of us should feel that we are also a part of the system. So voting is more of a passion that should come from within rather than some one else forcing on us

it should not be made compulsory, but everyone should be motivated for voting. sometime it is not feasible for everyone to give vote, its totally depends upon situations and conditions.

BTW there is another thread with same title.

Voting is a right of every citizen, but after voting, if we get a person who destroys the whole community for sake of money den itzz better we dont vote, so voting should not be made compulsory..

yes sure it should be made compulsory as unlees all vote positive and strong change can not be created.

yes voting should be made compulsory otherwise how can India be super power. voting is our right and those who are not doing please start voting.

Compulsory voting in Australia was adopted in the state of Queensland in 1915 and subsequently adopted nationwide in 1924. With Australia's compulsory voting system comes additional flexibility for the voter - elections are held on Saturdays, absent voters can vote in any state polling place, and voters in remote areas can vote before an election (at pre-poll voting centers) or via mail.

Voter turnout of those registered to vote in Australia was as low as 47% prior to the 1924 compulsory voting law. In the decades since 1924, voter turnout has hovered around 94% to 96%.

No voting can not be made compulsory. People have got the right to stay away from voting if they want to and no rule can force them. A lot of voters refrain when they are unable to make a decision on a applicant. So what is the point in forcing a person to vote if they've not had the capacity to make a decision which applicant is most worthy of their vote.
